Position Overview

This is an exceptional opportunity for a motivated Clinical Fellow keen on advancing their career in Acute Medicine and Infection. The successful candidate will engage with both the Acute Medical Department and the Infectious Diseases Department, with rotations occurring on a monthly basis.

The role is designed to deliver extensive training in Infection, tailored to the individual’s prior experience in the field, while also providing a broad exposure to the evaluation and management of medical patients within the Acute Medicine Department.

During their tenure, the Clinical Fellow will collaborate closely with Specialist Trainees in Infection and Infection Consultants, gaining valuable insights and experience. The Acute Care Unit (ACU) will be overseen by General Medicine Consultants, supported by a dedicated junior doctor and nursing team. This position offers a unique opportunity to work in a diverse environment, enhancing skills in interpreting microbiology laboratory results and managing infectious and tropical diseases in both inpatient and ACU settings.

Key Responsibilities

Applicants must hold full GMC registration. The Trust promotes flexible working arrangements and job-sharing options. This is a full-time position (40 hours per week), although applications for less than full-time (LTFT) roles will be considered.

Qualifications and Experience

Essential

  • MBBS / MBChB or equivalent medical qualification
  • Full GMC registration
  • Eligibility to work in the UK (appropriate visa and/or work permit)
  • Evidence of successful completion of Foundation Year 1 & 2 or equivalent

Desirable

  • Completion of Core Medical Training (CMT) or equivalent
  • MRCP Part 1
  • MRCEM Part A (or equivalent)
  • FRCPath Part 1
  • Other relevant qualifications: Diploma in Medical Microbiology, MSc in Microbiology, Diploma in Tropical Medicine & Hygiene

Knowledge and Skills

Essential

  • Minimum of 6 months experience in General or Acute Medicine at FY2 level, including participation in unselected take.
  • Experience in General Surgical specialties, including participation in unselected take, at FY1 or equivalent level.
  • Clinical knowledge and expertise: ability to apply sound clinical judgment to problems.
  • Understanding of evidence-based practice.

Desirable

  • 6 months experience at ST (IMT) 1 and above
  • Experience in Microbiology & Infection or clinical specialties with a significant infection component (ITU/HDU)
  • Laboratory experience relevant to medical microbiology
  • Experience in Emergency Medicine, Acute Medicine, or Ambulatory Care.
  • Two years of clinical NHS experience

Skills and Abilities

  • Ability to manage and prioritize time and information effectively
  • Strong organizational skills for conducting ward rounds
  • Logical and analytical thinking to solve problems and make decisions
  • Proficient IT skills, including experience with hospital computer systems (EPR, PACS, order communication systems, etc.)
