An exciting opportunity has emerged for a Works Manager to join our dynamic team. The successful candidate will possess a strong background in civil engineering, particularly in managing large-scale infrastructure projects. A valid UK driving licence is essential due to the requirement for site travel.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Oversee the management and leadership of a diverse team, including Foremen and Labour, ensuring efficient site operations.
  • Ensure compliance with health and safety regulations, client protocols, and approved risk assessments.
  • Contribute to the development of risk assessments and operational methodologies.
  • Champion a culture of safety, promoting initiatives aimed at achieving Zero Harm.
  • Exercise authority to halt operations if safety protocols are compromised.
  • Manage resource allocation effectively, reconciling against budgetary plans.
  • Prepare monthly resource forecasts aligned with project timelines.
  • Maintain accurate daily records and ensure all necessary checks are completed.
  • Supervise the hiring and management of plant resources in accordance with company standards.
  • Address environmental considerations and ensure project-specific controls are implemented.
  • Conduct site inductions and safety briefings to uphold high standards of communication.
  • Collaborate with site teams to develop and monitor project schedules.
  • Oversee site logistics and ensure efficient material management to minimize waste.
  • Implement quality control measures throughout the project lifecycle.
  • Generate reports and conduct investigations as necessary, implementing improvements where required.
  • Ensure all supervisory staff are well-informed of company policies and procedures.
  • Mentor and support junior engineers and supervisors in their professional development.

Qualifications and Experience:

  • Proven experience in civil engineering within regulated sectors such as rail, highways, or water.
  • Strong knowledge of foundation and reinforced concrete works.
  • Experience in managing groundworks and earthworks projects.
  • Demonstrated ability to manage both direct and subcontracted workforces effectively.
  • Excellent health and safety awareness with a track record of maintaining high safety standards.
  • Ability to build and maintain relationships with clients and stakeholders.
  • Strong communication skills, with the capacity to make informed decisions.

Essential Qualifications:

  • Valid Site Management Safety Training Scheme (SMSTS) certification.
  • Current Construction Skills Certification Scheme (CSCS) card.
  • Possession of a valid driving licence.

Skills Required:

  • Exceptional verbal and written communication abilities.
  • Highly organized, proactive, and positive attitude towards learning.
  • Self-motivated with a strong enthusiasm for the role.
  • Effective negotiation and interpersonal skills to manage supplier relationships.
  • Strong people skills, capable of liaising with personnel at all levels.
