An exceptional opportunity has emerged for a Works Manager to join our team. The successful candidate will possess a robust background in civil engineering, particularly in substantial infrastructure projects, ideally with main contracting experience.

The Works Manager will be entrusted with the overall management, leadership, and oversight of a diverse team, including Foremen, General Foremen, and laborers essential for site operations. This role encompasses ensuring effective supervision of both subcontractors and direct workforce, while guaranteeing the optimal allocation of resources.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Ensure all subcontractors and personnel are deployed safely and systematically.
  • Guarantee compliance with health and safety regulations, client protocols, and approved risk assessments.
  • Contribute to the development of risk assessments and operational methodologies.
  • Advocate for and implement Zero Harm initiatives and behavioral safety programs.
  • Possess the authority to halt operations if safety protocols are compromised.
  • Oversee resource management and reconciliation against budgetary plans.
  • Assist in the preparation of monthly resource forecasts aligned with project timelines.
  • Ensure completion of daily inspections and documentation.
  • Verify that the appropriate level of skilled resources is present on-site to meet project schedules.
  • Manage the hiring and off-hiring of equipment in accordance with company standards.
  • Maintain awareness of environmental considerations and enforce project-specific controls.
  • Conduct site inductions, daily briefings, toolbox talks, and safety meetings to a high standard.
  • Collaborate with site teams to develop and monitor project programs and outputs.
  • Oversee site setup and mobilization processes.
  • Contribute to the logistics plan and manage logistics throughout the project lifecycle.
  • Ensure materials are procured and managed efficiently to minimize waste.
  • Implement quality control measures effectively.
  • Produce comprehensive daily records and reports as required.
  • Provide necessary reports or investigations and implement improvements accordingly.
  • Ensure all supervisors are well-informed of company policies.
  • Conduct assessments on site supervisors to ensure compliance.
  • Ensure timely submission of allocation documentation.
  • Maintain an accurate and concise site diary.
  • Mentor and support engineers and supervisors in their roles.
  • Perform additional duties as required by the position.
  • Adhere to company policies and procedures.

Experience and Knowledge:

  • Proven experience in civil engineering within regulated sectors such as rail, highways, or water.
  • Strong expertise in reinforced concrete works.
  • Experience in groundwork and earthworks management.
  • Demonstrated ability to manage diverse workforces, both direct and subcontracted.
  • Outstanding health and safety awareness with a track record of maintaining high safety standards.
  • Understanding of behavioral safety principles and a commitment to achieving excellence.
  • Ability to cultivate and maintain relationships with clients and stakeholders.
  • Effective communication skills with the capacity to make decisive actions.

Qualifications:

  • Valid Site Management Safety Training Scheme (SMSTS) certification.
  • Current Construction Skills Certification Scheme (CSCS) card.
  • Possession of a valid driving license.

  • Highly organized, proactive, and positive with a willingness to learn.
  • Self-driven and enthusiastic.
  • Strong negotiation and interpersonal skills for effective supplier management.
  • Excellent people skills to engage with personnel at all levels.
