SEND Inclusion Coordinator

Fixed Term, Full Time

Salary Range: £24,970 to £29,377 per annum

Location: North Essex

Working Style:

This position is a fixed term contract for a duration of 12 months.

Essex County Council is committed to transforming the services and provisions for children and young individuals with Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND). Our goal is to create a SEND framework that identifies and addresses needs at an earlier stage, providing effective and meaningful support while reducing reliance on statutory services.

The SEND Inclusion Coordinator will play a crucial role in promoting sustainable inclusion for children and young people with SEND by offering targeted assistance to educational institutions, families, and community partners. This role will facilitate collaborative practices through One Planning and ensure a cohesive approach to the Assess, Plan, Do, Review Cycle, especially during critical transition periods for children and young people.

Key Responsibilities:

Deliver targeted interventions as part of a multi-disciplinary team to support families and professionals during times of change, challenge, and transition, fostering long-term resilience and effective communication essential for successful educational placements and outcomes. Utilize and exemplify enabling, collaborative, and person-centered methodologies to ensure that the voices of pupils and families are acknowledged, valued, and central to the planning process for children and young people aged 0-25. Identify and implement effective strategies for gathering, documenting, and disseminating information regarding a child or young person, their family, educational setting, or circumstances, to inform their planning through both statutory and non-statutory frameworks. Foster partnerships among educational staff, families, and other stakeholders to enhance mutual understanding of aspirations, needs, outcomes, and necessary provisions for children and young people. Engage directly with children and their families to enhance their understanding and involvement in assessment, planning, and decision-making processes, ensuring that their plans are co-produced and comprehensively understood. Serve as a model of effective One Planning for local authority colleagues and as a source of information for targeted initiatives with families and educational settings, enabling cohesive collaboration among Inclusion and SEND Operations teams. Design, implement, and assess a variety of partnership and person-centered practices, providing development opportunities for educational staff to integrate these approaches into their engagement with families. Establish and maintain strong connections across the educational landscape, including SENDIASS and the SEND Innovation and Strategy team, to identify, implement, and evaluate effective One Planning practices with input from families and the community. Specific individual and collective targets and objectives will be established annually within the performance management framework.

Required Skills, Knowledge, and Experience:

Holds RQF Level 2 of the SEN awards or possesses equivalent experience. Demonstrates a commitment to ongoing professional development with expertise in relevant areas. Familiarity with the SEND Code of Practice and its implications for assessment, planning, provision, and review for children and young people in daily operations. Significant experience working effectively with children with SEND in educational and/or home environments. Proven ability to collaborate successfully with families in a supportive role and with other professionals in a multi-agency context. Exhibits excellent interpersonal skills and the ability to facilitate and mediate in challenging situations. Evidence of capacity to develop skills, knowledge, and experience within the role, including a willingness to lead meetings and deliver training to small groups of adults.

Mobility Requirement:

The role necessitates mobility throughout the operational area. Therefore, the successful candidate must possess a valid driving license and have access to a vehicle, or demonstrate the ability to meet the mobility requirements through alternative means.
