The Head of Subscription Services at Thomson Reuters will oversee the growth of subscription revenue through effective strategies for subscriber acquisition, conversion, and retention. This role is pivotal within a dynamic and diverse business that operates at the core of a leading global news organization. Role Overview
As the Head of Subscription Services, your responsibilities will include:
  • Formulating and implementing a comprehensive global strategy for subscription acquisition and retention.
  • Leading marketing initiatives to execute ROI-focused paid acquisition and retention strategies.
  • Conducting ongoing analysis of competitive market trends to refine our approach.
  • Utilizing audience data to identify customer segments and guide marketing strategies and product innovation.
  • Communicating the value of our offerings to both existing and prospective audiences.
  • Employing effective tools to engage and convert the Thomson Reuters audience (e.g., content personalization, registration processes, newsletters, etc.).
  • Creating real-time reports that provide insights into our performance against key performance indicators (KPIs).
  • Building and managing a high-performing team dedicated to establishing a center of excellence for subscriptions across the organization.
Key Responsibilities:
  • Direct management and accountability for subscriber acquisition and retention efforts.
  • Leveraging data and continuous testing to enhance average revenue per user (ARPU) and customer experience metrics.
  • Collaborating with editorial and product teams to adapt, improve, and develop services and products aimed at boosting subscription revenue.
Expected Outcomes:
  • Crafting an audience proposition that informs product development.
  • Executing a go-to-market strategy for subscriptions.
  • Establishing targets for subscriptions revenue and ARPU, along with a strategic plan to achieve them.
  • Setting customer churn and retention targets, along with a strategic plan to meet these goals.
  • Defining customer acquisition cost (CAC) and lifetime value (LTV) targets, along with a strategic plan to achieve them.
  • Implementing a continuous testing framework for offers and the conversion funnel using an A/B testing approach.
  • Conducting data-driven analyses to consistently enhance audience acquisition, conversion, and retention.

  • Demonstrated leadership experience in the online media sector, with a strong track record of achievements in the news industry.
  • A strategic mindset with the ability to anticipate business opportunities and future customer needs within the media landscape.
  • A hands-on approach, capable of working effectively at a granular level.
  • A proven history in subscription acquisition, conversion, and retention, preferably in an international or business news context.
  • Extensive data analysis and analytical capabilities.
  • A successful track record in navigating complex and highly matrixed corporate environments.
  • Experience in a global organizational setting.
