Overview of the Role

The Identity Management Specialist is tasked with overseeing the daily operations of the identity management system, ensuring that all users, including employees, contractors, partners, and clients, are accurately authenticated across the corporate and partner networks. This position combines service management with personnel leadership, requiring in-depth knowledge of Identity and Access Management from the perspective of user identity verification. The role encompasses responsibility for account identity assignments, adjustments, and deletions as part of an employee's journey within the organization. Additionally, it is crucial to implement appropriate checks during user authentication to maintain a secure environment while minimizing user disruption.

This position presents an excellent opportunity within one of the UK's foremost IT service providers, tasked with delivering essential services to manage a global user base exceeding 20,000 individuals.

The ideal candidate will possess substantial experience in operational identity management, demonstrating a strong history of service delivery and team leadership.

This role demands a solid grasp of identity management principles, alongside the ability to enhance user experience within the framework of operational security. The successful candidate will be challenged to balance the need for transparent and user-friendly access with the necessity of maintaining acceptable security and compliance levels, ensuring minimal exposure to potential breaches.

The GIS Workplace Identity Manager will report directly to the Head of Identity and Access Management, playing a vital role in delivering a secure and dependable working environment for the organization’s 20,000 users.

Key Responsibilities

Oversee the operational service delivery for an Identity Lifecycle service, encompassing internal, external, guest, and partner accounts. Manage identity security controls, including Conditional Access Policies, Multi-Factor Authentication, Passwordless, and Biometric Authentication technologies. Collaborate with Access Management teams to ensure a comprehensive IAM service. Provide expertise on identity framework integration, including Enterprise Application registration in EntraID for SSO and automated provisioning. Assist in designing enterprise solutions to address complex challenges. Integrate onboarding solutions into existing IAM designs and strategies. Define work packages for team delivery. Support regulatory compliance through ISO 27001 audits, Cyber Essentials Plus (CE+) compliance, customer audits, and presales inquiries, while being aware of varying expectations between Government/Military and Commercial audits. Manage team performance through regular one-on-ones and annual reviews, overseeing workload and performance management. Align stakeholder expectations by maintaining regular communication with your line manager regarding individual and team performance and workloads. Create and present reports to communicate ideas, risks, opportunities, best practices, or status updates. Engage with internal and external stakeholders to coordinate efforts, gain support, and collaborate effectively. Ensure accountability for the maintenance of Identity Provider (IdP) systems and supporting applications. Oversee changes and maintenance of IdPs and related systems. Ensure a robust BCP/DR solution is established for IdPs.

Required Qualifications

Relevant experience in an IT Identity Management role. Proven leadership experience. Technical certifications in Microsoft technologies (AZ500, SC300, etc.). Demonstrated experience in a challenging commercial environment. Strong working knowledge of relevant functional systems (EntraID, Active Directory). Experience in engaging with and influencing multi-tier management. Proven ability to develop best practice policies and procedures. Highly motivated with a commitment to self-learning and maintaining industry best practices. Experience in people management and training. Proven ability to manage a results-oriented operation. Hold SC Clearance or be eligible to obtain it.

Desirable Qualifications

Fully qualified in relevant professional certifications (CISM, CISSP, etc.). Familiarity with information assurance standards and frameworks such as CIS, NIST, ISO 27001, Cyber Essentials/Essentials Plus, GDPR. Strong presentation and moderation skills; professional demeanor and effective communication (both verbal and written). Excellent organizational and time management skills. Proficient user of ServiceNow. Membership in a professional body (CIISec, BCS, etc.). Hold DV Clearance or be eligible to obtain it.
