Salisbury, Wiltshire, United Kingdom Salisbury NHS Foundation Trust Full time

Position Overview

In this pivotal role, you will be instrumental in overseeing the management and leadership of the Emergency Department. As a registered and accountable nurse, you will consistently act in the best interests of your patients, taking full responsibility for your actions and decisions. Your responsibilities will include patient assessment, care planning, delivering and supervising safe and compassionate care, and evaluating the effectiveness of the care provided. As a registrant with the NMC, you will also facilitate the learning and development of your colleagues. Strong leadership qualities, along with a commitment to transparency and trustworthiness, are essential. As a member of our Trust, you will uphold the values and principles of the organization and adhere to the NMC Code of Conduct.

We offer flexible opportunities for both full-time and part-time positions, covering 24-hour shift patterns that are designed to be family-friendly, typically spanning 3-5 days or nights per week, depending on hours.

Key Responsibilities

With an increasing patient attendance of approximately 50,000 annually, we take pride in delivering high-quality care. Our department is recognized as a designated Trauma Unit, and we collaborate closely with the ambulance service and various specialist teams within the hospital and the community.

Our facility comprises approximately 470 beds and employs over 4,000 staff members.

We support flexible working arrangements and will consider requests based on the needs of the service. Working with us is rewarding, offering access to a variety of NHS discounts, a minimum of 35 days of paid holiday (pro rata), and a generous pension scheme. On-site amenities include car parking (fees apply), a leisure center, a day nursery, and a holiday play scheme.

Salisbury is a desirable location for both living and working, providing a blend of urban and natural environments. With convenient access to major transport links, including local airports and nearby cities, it offers a balanced lifestyle.

Job Responsibilities

The ideal candidate will possess expert knowledge in emergency nursing and effectively translate this expertise into practice. You should be a collaborative team player with demonstrated leadership capabilities, exhibiting energy, proactivity, and a commitment to your professional development and that of your peers.

In this band 6 role, you will serve as the shift coordinator, lead front door services as the ED navigator, mentor a night team, and conduct staff appraisals. Qualifications in mentorship are preferred, along with certifications such as EPALS, ALS, and TNCC (or other trauma-related courses).
