Role: Welfare Rights Support Specialist for Tenants

Department: Advisory Services

Compensation: £28,226 - £29,913 per annum (pro rata: £21,712 - £23,010)

Work Hours: 30 Hours Fixed Term

Work Location: Flexible, with some office attendance required.

We are seeking a dedicated and well-organized Welfare Rights Support Specialist to enhance our accredited advisory service.

The Action Group collaborates with Almond Housing Association to deliver specialized Welfare Benefits Advisory services to its tenants. Responsibilities include:

  • Conducting comprehensive benefit assessments
  • Assisting individuals in submitting benefit applications
  • Educating clients about their entitlements and rights
  • Offering basic debt advisory services
  • Identifying additional support needs and facilitating access to relevant services
  • Supporting clients in contesting decisions, including representation at appeal hearings
  • Coordinating with various partners and external organizations
  • Compiling data and preparing reports for funding bodies

The ideal candidate will possess a friendly demeanor and the ability to convey complex information in a clear and approachable manner.

Role Responsibilities

The Action Group, in partnership with Almond Housing Association, is committed to delivering expert Welfare Benefits Advisory services to tenants. Key responsibilities include:

· Providing a comprehensive Welfare Rights advisory and representation service to maximize tenant income.

· Educating clients on their entitlements and responsibilities.

· Offering basic debt advisory services and connecting clients with Money Advice services.

· Providing information and training to other professionals, particularly Housing Officers.

The role requires a flexible approach, which may involve occasional evening or weekend work. The Action Group adheres to the Scottish National Standards for Information and Advice Providers, ensuring high-quality service delivery.

  1. Advice, Advocacy, and Representation
  • Deliver information and advice to a diverse clientele, including individuals with disabilities, support needs, and their caregivers.
  • Assess benefit eligibility and provide individual support for claims and appeals.
  • Conduct 'Better Off' calculations to illustrate financial implications of employment.
  • Assist clients with various advisory tasks, from application assistance to detailed casework and representation.
  • Provide solutions for complex cases.
  • Manage your own caseload and maintain accurate case records.
  • Liaise with external agencies on behalf of clients as necessary.
  • Serve as a specialist resource for professionals from various organizations to ensure widespread access to advice.
  • Identify additional issues affecting clients and refer them to appropriate services.
  • Stay informed about legislative changes.
  1. Coaching and Training
  • Mentor clients to enhance their understanding and confidence in navigating benefits.
  • Develop tools and resources to assist clients in managing their benefit responsibilities.
  • Support clients in their interactions with agencies.
  • Create and deliver presentations, workshops, and training sessions on advisory topics to diverse audiences.
  1. Monitoring and Reporting
  • Maintain comprehensive records of client interactions.
  • Monitor and report on project activities.
  • Evaluate outcomes against project targets and adjust services as needed.
  • Identify and report on issues affecting clients.
  • Attend progress meetings with project funders as required.
  1. Promoting the Service
  • Build strong networking and partnership relationships with internal and external stakeholders.
  • Assist in creating written materials, articles, and publicity to raise awareness of benefits.
  • Promote the service through various channels.
  1. Contributing to Quality Service
  • Familiarize yourself with and adhere to all organizational policies and procedures.
  • Participate in necessary training sessions.
  • Contribute to service user consultations and assist in developing service standards and evaluations.
  • Encourage understanding of the complaints process among service users.
  • Maintain a strong commitment to equality and diversity, supporting marginalized groups.
