The Medicines Safety & Governance team is excited to announce a vacancy for a Medicines Governance Associate. This role presents a unique chance to engage in and evaluate clinical audits while collaborating with various professional teams to uphold the Trust's commitment to medication safety. Our mission is to ensure the highest quality of care through the responsible management of medicines.

Key Responsibilities

  • Collaborate with Medicines Safety & Governance Pharmacists and Specialist Pharmacy Technicians to conduct a variety of medication and patient safety audits.
  • Analyze audit data and provide feedback to service managers, ensuring compliance with safety standards.
  • Deliver evidence and assurances to both internal departments and external stakeholders regarding the quality and safety of services provided.
  • Participate in controlled drugs checks and audits alongside qualified personnel.
  • Conduct audits related to the secure handling of medications and departmental assurance.
  • Engage in project initiatives aimed at mitigating risks identified in the Pharmacy Department's Risk Register.
  • Review alerts from the National Patient Safety Agency (NPSA) in collaboration with the Safety team.
  • Address actions from the Medicines and Healthcare products Regulatory Agency (MHRA) and Care Quality Commission (CQC) with the Safety team.
  • Oversee audits related to unlicensed medicines and Patient Group Directions.
  • Collect and input data into appropriate systems, including AMaT, DATIX, and Excel spreadsheets.
  • Analyze collected data and present findings to relevant committees and area managers.
  • Escalate any breaches or audit failures to the appropriate contacts within the Pharmacy Safety and Governance Team.
  • Conduct training compliance audits.

Qualifications & Experience

Essential:

  • Strong foundational education.
  • GCSEs in Maths and English, along with two additional subjects at grade C/Grade 4 or above.

Desirable:

  • Pharmacy Services NVQ Level 2 and/or relevant healthcare NVQ.
  • Two science subjects or dual award.

Knowledge & Skills

Essential:

  • Experience working effectively within a team.
  • Understanding of clinical governance principles.
  • Familiarity with medicines management practices.
  • Experience or knowledge of conducting audits.

Desirable:

  • Prior experience in audit work.
  • Involvement in project initiatives.
  • Experience in a fast-paced healthcare setting.
  • Awareness of confidentiality, equality, and diversity principles.
  • Knowledge of current legislation and guidelines affecting pharmacy practice.
  • Familiarity with the range of Pharmacy Services offered.
  • Experience in delivering training or educational sessions.
