Position Overview

Lancashire Teaching Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust is seeking innovative and proactive professionals to enhance our esteemed Consultant team in Acute Medicine.

Our dedicated team, supported by skilled medical trainees and nursing staff, delivers exceptional healthcare across various Acute settings, including our Acute Medical Unit, Acute Assessment Unit, Same Day Emergency Care Unit, and Virtual Wards. We are eager to welcome highly driven Consultants to our growing Acute Medical Team, ensuring high-quality medical consultant coverage throughout the week, including out-of-hours responsibilities.

The ideal candidate will play a vital role in the ongoing enhancement of medical services within our organization and will be dedicated to upholding superior standards of patient care.

Key Responsibilities

The Acute Medical team operates a comprehensive seven-day service across our facilities. The successful candidate will:

- Provide direct clinical input for patients referred to Acute Medicine from various sources, including General Practitioners and Emergency Departments.

- Focus on maximizing ambulatory care to minimize the duration of hospital stays for patients.

- Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams and lead the coordination of patient management.

- Educate and mentor medical students and postgraduate trainees.

- Maintain a continuous commitment to patient care and ensure appropriate arrangements for leave and off-duty periods.

- Advocate for high professional standards in clinical practice, both through direct patient interactions and ongoing professional development.

- Foster strong relationships with General Practitioners, primary care colleagues, and community services in the region.

The post holder will be expected to work across the acute medical units, same-day emergency care, and the acute assessment unit.

About Our Organization

The Acute Medicine department at Lancashire Teaching Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust comprises medical admissions units at our facilities. We also feature a Same Day Emergency Unit and an Acute Frailty Unit. Plans are underway to expand our services with the opening of a new 42-bedded Acute Medical Unit.

Our Acute Medicine team benefits from collaborative services from various specialties, including Nephrology, Neurology, Palliative Care, Cardiology, Respiratory, Acute Oncology, and Geriatric Care.

With a committed team of consultants, trainee doctors, advanced clinical practitioners, nurse practitioners, nurses, pharmacists, and allied health professionals, we take pride in our dedication to delivering high-quality care to patients with acute medical conditions.

Essential

  • Full GMC Registration
  • MBBS or equivalent
  • MRCP
  • CCT in Acute Medicine - Must be registered on the Specialist Register (or eligible within 6 months)

  • Specialty certificate examination in Acute Medicine (MRCP Acute Medicine)
