Position Overview

We are seeking a dedicated and skilled Senior Psychological Practitioner to enhance our psychological services within the Adult Mental Health inpatient units. This role is open to candidates at Band 7 with a preceptorship or Band 8a level, providing an opportunity for both newly qualified and seasoned professionals to contribute to our team.

Role Summary

The successful candidate will join our esteemed Psychology team at Midlands Partnership NHS Foundation Trust, where psychological expertise is highly regarded. You will collaborate closely with a Principal Psychologist and a team of Assistant Psychologists, ensuring a supportive environment to engage with patients and staff alike. Your contributions will be vital in fostering psychological insights and trauma-informed care practices, ultimately enhancing patient outcomes.

Key Responsibilities

Direct Clinical Engagement

  • Provide flexible and innovative psychological assessments and interventions tailored to a diverse patient population.
  • Engage with families and caregivers to support the therapeutic process.
  • Participate in the design, implementation, and evaluation of group therapy sessions.

Collaborative Work

  • Act as an integral member of the multidisciplinary team, promoting psychological methodologies and contributing to comprehensive care plans.
  • Facilitate debriefing sessions for staff following critical incidents to support their well-being.
  • Lead reflective practice discussions to enhance team dynamics and care delivery.

Leadership and Development

  • Collaborate with leadership to shape the strategic direction of psychological services within the inpatient setting.
  • Engage in service evaluation and development initiatives to improve care quality.
  • Provide training and mentorship to junior staff and Assistant Psychologists.
  • Support or lead research initiatives in partnership with academic institutions.
