Senior Large Loss Claims Specialist

Role Purpose/Overview:

As a Senior Large Loss Claims Specialist, you will be an integral part of our Large Loss Team. You will proactively manage a portfolio of motor claims, primarily focusing on high-value bodily injury cases. Your role will involve investigating and providing guidance on claims that present complex indemnity challenges across various sectors, including private, commercial, and motor trade. Collaborating within a team, you will serve as a key referral point for technical matters, offering insights on strategy, tactics, and significant developments. You will participate in targeted reviews to promote best practices and optimal outcomes.

Key Responsibilities:

Overseeing a caseload of claims in alignment with the Group's philosophy, claims handling protocols, and service standards. Managing claim expenses by securing the most cost-effective settlements through effective liability and quantum arguments, as well as proficient negotiation. Ensuring meticulous file management and accurate reserves, complemented by a robust diary system that guarantees regular case reviews and timely handling in accordance with service level agreements. Attending Trials and meetings with Counsel when necessary. Engaging with Reinsurers and adhering to all associated Large Loss protocols. Complying fully with authority limits. Fostering and maintaining strong relationships with colleagues and business partners. Supporting the growth of junior team members by acting as a Mentor and resource. Performing general claims tasks as required. Adhering to established personal authority limits and seeking authorization from the line manager/Large Loss Team for activities that exceed these limits. Ensuring compliance with all regulatory standards, including principles of treating customers fairly. Responding promptly and proactively to incoming communications via telephone, email, and written correspondence. Maintaining diligent file management and accurate reserves, along with an effective diary system for regular case reviews. Acting as a technical reference point within the team and across the business to ensure timely management of technical queries and referrals. Proactively managing personal training and development needs. Performing general claims tasks as required. Ensuring adherence to Company processes regarding FCA compliance and Treating Customers Fairly. Guaranteeing that GDPR, FCA, Vulnerable Customer, Consumer Duty, TCF, and other regulatory requirements are met where applicable.

Key Skills and Knowledge:

Strong and current expertise in personal injury claims, particularly in serious injury cases. Comprehensive technical knowledge of motor indemnity issues. Experience in managing a portfolio of serious injury claims, including those influenced by Discount Rates, Care Claims, and other relevant heads of claim. A solid understanding of medical disciplines is essential for investigating personal injury claims across all severity levels. Demonstrated capability in claims negotiation, liability decision-making, and cost assessment. Familiarity with current and relevant Case Law. Commitment to compliance with all regulatory requirements, including the principles of treating customers fairly. Excellent customer service and communication skills. Ability to manage and prioritize personal workloads effectively. Strong communication skills with the ability to mentor and support colleagues on technical matters. Willingness to pursue personal development and acquire new skills. Flexibility to work proactively in a dynamic claims environment. In-depth market knowledge. Strong commercial awareness.
