Senior Large Loss Claims Specialist

Role Purpose/Overview:

As a Senior Large Loss Claims Specialist, you will be an integral part of our Large Loss Team. You will manage a portfolio of motor claims, primarily focusing on high-value bodily injury cases. Your role will involve investigating and providing guidance on claims that present complex indemnity challenges across various sectors, including private, commercial, and motor trade. Collaborating within a team, you will serve as a key referral point for technical matters, offering insights on strategy, tactics, and significant developments. You will participate in targeted reviews to promote best practices and optimal outcomes.

Key Responsibilities:

Overseeing a caseload of claims in line with the Group's philosophy, claims handling protocols, and service standards. Managing claim expenses by striving for the most cost-effective settlements through effective liability and quantum arguments, along with skilled negotiation. Ensuring meticulous file management and accurate reserves, complemented by a robust diary system to guarantee timely case reviews in accordance with service level agreements. Attending Trials and meetings with Counsel as necessary. Engaging with Reinsurers and adhering to all relevant Large Loss procedures. Complying fully with authority limits. Fostering and maintaining productive relationships with colleagues and business partners. Mentoring junior colleagues and serving as a resource for their development. Performing general claims tasks as required. Following established personal authority limits and seeking approval from management for activities that exceed these limits. Ensuring compliance with all regulatory standards, including principles of fair customer treatment. Responding promptly and proactively to incoming communications via phone, email, and written correspondence. Maintaining good file discipline and accurate reserves, alongside an effective diary system for regular case reviews. Acting as a technical reference point within the team and across the business to ensure timely management of technical queries and referrals. Proactively managing your own training and development needs. Undertaking general claims tasks as required. Complying with Company processes regarding FCA regulations and fair customer treatment. Ensuring adherence to GDPR, FCA, Vulnerable Customer, Consumer Duty, and other regulatory requirements where applicable.

Key Skills and Knowledge:

Extensive and current knowledge of personal injury claims, particularly in serious injury cases. Strong technical understanding of motor indemnity issues. Experience in managing serious injury claims, including those affected by Discount Rates, Care Claims, and other relevant aspects. A solid understanding of medical disciplines necessary for investigating personal injury claims across all severity levels. Proven ability in claims negotiation, liability assessment, and cost management. Familiarity with current and relevant Case Law. Commitment to compliance with all regulatory requirements, including principles of fair customer treatment. Excellent customer service and communication abilities. Capacity to manage and prioritize your own workload effectively. Strong communication skills with the ability to coach and support colleagues on technical matters. Willingness to pursue personal development and acquire new skills. Flexibility to work proactively in a dynamic claims environment. Good understanding of market trends. Strong commercial awareness.
