Senior Large Loss Claims Specialist

Role Overview:

As a Senior Large Loss Claims Specialist, you will be an integral part of our dedicated Large Loss Team. You will take charge of a portfolio of motor claims, primarily focusing on high-value bodily injury cases. Your role will involve investigating and providing insights on claims that present complex indemnity challenges across various sectors, including private, commercial, and motor trade. Collaborating within a team, you will serve as a key referral point for technical matters, offering guidance on strategies, tactics, and significant developments. You will participate in targeted reviews to ensure adherence to best practices and optimal outcomes.

Key Responsibilities:

Overseeing a caseload of claims in line with the Group's philosophy, established claims handling protocols, and service expectations. Managing claim costs effectively by negotiating settlements that are both economical and fair, utilizing strong liability and quantum arguments. Ensuring meticulous file management and accurate reserve maintenance, alongside a robust diary system for regular case reviews in accordance with service level agreements. Attending Trials and engaging in discussions with Counsel when necessary. Complying with and actively engaging in all Large Loss procedures and Reinsurer requirements. Adhering to established authority limits and protocols. Cultivating and sustaining productive relationships with colleagues and business partners. Mentoring junior team members and providing guidance as a reference point. Performing general claims-related tasks as needed. Following agreed personal authority limits and seeking approval from the line manager or Large Loss Team for activities that exceed these limits. Ensuring compliance with all regulatory standards, including principles of fair customer treatment. Responding promptly and proactively to incoming communications via phone, email, and written correspondence. Maintaining disciplined file management and accurate reserves, supported by an effective diary system for regular case evaluations. Acting as a technical resource within the team and across the organization to ensure timely management of technical inquiries and referrals. Proactively managing your own training and development needs. Performing general claims tasks as required. Adhering to company protocols regarding FCA compliance and fair customer treatment. Ensuring that all regulatory requirements, including GDPR and Consumer Duty, are consistently met.

Key Skills and Knowledge:

In-depth and current knowledge of personal injury claims, particularly in serious injury cases. Strong technical expertise in motor indemnity matters. Experience managing a portfolio of serious injury claims, including those influenced by Discount Rates and Care Claims. A solid understanding of medical disciplines relevant to personal injury investigations. Proven ability in claims negotiation, liability assessment, and cost evaluation. Familiarity with current and relevant case law. Commitment to compliance with all regulatory requirements, including fair treatment of customers. Excellent customer service and communication abilities. Capacity to manage and prioritize personal workloads effectively. Strong communication skills with the ability to coach and support colleagues on technical issues. Willingness to pursue personal development and acquire new skills. Ability to work flexibly in a proactive claims environment. Good understanding of market dynamics. Strong commercial awareness.
