London, Greater London, United Kingdom Rail Delivery Group Full time

Salary: £54,000

What is the purpose of this role?

The essence of programme coordination lies in harmonizing a collective strategic vision while managing various workstreams and guiding project teams. As a Strategic Programme Coordinator, your responsibility will be to oversee programmes, projects, and other initiatives throughout their entire lifecycle, ensuring they remain within defined scope, timeline, and budget. You will adhere to the RDG Project Delivery Framework and inspire others to do the same. Your success will be evaluated based on the effective delivery of programmes both within our organization and, when applicable, within our member organizations.

This position will spearhead the RDG execution of industry programmes, which may encompass accessibility, fares, ticketing, retail projects, or back-office system initiatives.

What can you expect to accomplish in this role?

Reporting to the Project Director and collaborating with various internal and external stakeholders, your responsibilities will include:

  • Managing the RDG Project team(s)
  • Leading the programme(s) – representing it, addressing obstacles, cultivating a competent team, setting direction, and managing multiple workstreams concurrently
  • Establishing, maintaining, and overseeing programme and project plans, tracking progress, identifying issues, and implementing necessary actions and decisions
  • Managing risks, issues, and changes. Initiating corrective measures against identified risks and issues to meet programme objectives while considering business benefits and impacts on costs and timelines.
  • Setting up appropriate governance for the Programme in alignment with RDG's existing governance structure. Responsible for preparing reports and documentation for governance and stakeholders.
  • Supporting project delivery teams in their daily operations to achieve the performance required for successful programme objectives.
  • Complying with RDG Project Delivery Framework standards and procedures while identifying and implementing enhancements to these standards and procedures, including the RDG Risk Management process.

Requirements

We seek an individual with substantial experience as a programme manager or senior project manager, showcasing a strong aptitude for the role along with expert knowledge in programme and project management.

Key skills and knowledge we are looking for include:

  • Extensive vocational experience, preferably within Transport, Travel, Retail, Utilities, or Professional Services
  • Experience with both Agile and Prince 2 methodologies, with qualifications in programme management (e.g., Managing Successful Programmes (MSP))
  • Proven track record of delivering programmes/projects within agreed constraints of time, budget, and high-level scope, including experience in prioritizing activities and managing issues and risks.
  • Experience in delivering programmes or projects involving multiple external stakeholders
  • Leading programmes with significant budgetary responsibilities
  • Decision-making capabilities regarding project priorities, change management, and financial adjustments.
  • Expertise in developing project plans and ensuring the delivery of priority projects.
  • Ability to identify and document risks, issues, dependencies, assumptions, and decisions, along with appropriate management actions.
  • Demonstrated leadership skills, effectively guiding project teams and individuals.
  • Exceptional communication skills, engaging with senior executives, stakeholders, industry boards, and project team members through high-quality reports, presentations, and focus groups to influence decisions and provide business management support.
  • Strategic thinking in the approach to achieving project objectives.
