Overview of the Role

An exciting opportunity has emerged to oversee the Private Sector Housing Team and the Private Rented Property Licensing Scheme as the Service Manager for Private Sector Housing.

The Private Sector Housing Service at Barking and Dagenham operates within a broader framework of Regulatory Services under the Law and Governance Directorate.

The primary objective of this position is to assist the Head of Service in evaluating and enhancing all private sector housing functions, ensuring that the service elevates the quality, safety, and variety of residential accommodations in Barking and Dagenham.

This role will define the strategic direction, manage the service, and implement the objectives through effective property licensing management and rigorous regulation, utilizing a comprehensive range of legislative authorities.

Key Requirements for the Position

The ideal candidate must possess a BSc in Environmental Health or a related Housing qualification. They should also demonstrate essential competencies in investigative techniques, along with a thorough understanding of the Housing Act 2004, the Crime & Disorder Act 1998, and Environmental Health regulations.

The successful applicant will be a flexible, proactive, and enthusiastic service manager with outstanding communication abilities and a dedicated approach to fulfilling their responsibilities efficiently. A proven history of delivering, developing, and successfully managing high-quality regulatory services in collaboration with the community and other stakeholders is essential.

The candidate will excel in creating, maintaining, and enhancing productive working relationships both within the service and with external partners.
