Position Overview

This role is a fixed-term contract for a Clinical Fellow (ST3+) specializing in vascular surgery. The selected candidate will integrate into the vascular surgery team, engaging in responsibilities equivalent to those of a Senior Registrar (SpR) or above. The Clinical Fellow will be part of the out-of-hours vascular surgery rota at the hub unit.

Key Responsibilities

The post-holder will undertake a variety of essential duties, including:

  • Conducting daily ward rounds
  • Managing outpatient clinics (typically 2-3 weekly)
  • Participating in elective surgery sessions (2 per week)
  • Gaining exposure to training opportunities within the interventional radiology suite
  • Overseeing the work of junior doctors (CT2/FY1)
  • Maintaining up-to-date medical records
  • Providing prospective cover for ward duties and out-of-hours commitments for SpRs/SCFs

The Clinical Fellow will actively contribute to the submission of data to the National Vascular Registry and uphold in-house data collection protocols.

Teaching and Mentorship

There is an expectation for the post-holder to engage in the education of both undergraduate and postgraduate students.

Essential Qualifications

Candidates must possess:

  • MBBS or equivalent
  • MRCS or equivalent
  • GMC registration
  • Membership in a relevant Royal College or equivalent
  • Strong communication skills in English
  • Experience in teaching

Desired Qualifications

A postgraduate degree is preferred.

Surgical Competencies

Candidates should demonstrate:

  • Ability to operate at ST3 level or above in vascular surgery
  • An up-to-date logbook for review
  • Capability to supervise the clinical activities of training doctors and other staff
  • Strong teaching abilities
  • Effective organizational and prioritization skills
  • Awareness of health, safety, and security protocols

Leadership Skills

The ability to lead a multidisciplinary team in a complex healthcare environment is desirable.
