Job Summary

The Department of Thoracic Surgery at Guy's and St Thomas' NHS Foundation Trust is seeking a talented Clinical Fellow to join our team. As a Clinical Fellow, you will play a key role in the day-to-day management of thoracic surgery in-patients under the supervision of our consultant team.

Key Responsibilities
  • Manage the day-to-day activities of thoracic surgery in-patients, ensuring high-quality patient care and adherence to departmental protocols.
  • Liaise with on-call consultants and nursing staff to coordinate emergency and non-elective referrals, ensuring seamless patient flow and effective communication.
  • Regularly attend theatres and out-patient clinics to participate in surgical procedures and patient consultations.
  • Contribute to administrative tasks, including the production of discharge summaries, clinic letters, and communication of pathology results to referring trusts.
  • Participate in departmental teaching, research, and clinical audit initiatives to enhance patient care and advance medical knowledge.
About Us

The Department of Thoracic Surgery is one of the largest specialist thoracic centres in the UK, performing approximately 1500 surgical procedures per year. Our team consists of 8 thoracic surgery consultants, an associate specialist, and a team of specialist registrars/clinical fellows, nurse practitioners, and junior clinical fellows.

Person Specification
  • Full GMC Registration and a license to practice.
  • Evidence of continuous professional development.
  • At least 12 months of cardiothoracic surgery experience at registrar level.
  • Ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing.
  • Experience of leading a surgical team.
  • Understanding of the principles of medical research and statistics.
