Senior Clinical Fellow in General Surgery Role

Applications are invited for the post of Senior Clinical Fellow in General Surgery. As a senior trainee, you will work in the capacity of a registrar to one of the consultants within the General Surgery Unit, responsible for both inpatient elective and emergency work, as well as supporting the trauma team while on call. The post is not approved for basic or higher surgical training but will provide ample training opportunities and suit a senior trainee committed to a surgical career or seeking additional experience of General surgery at registrar level.

Main Responsibilities

The successful applicant will work closely with the Colorectal Surgery team, including clinics, theatres, and on-calls. The General Surgery Unit is served by four consultants with sub-specialist interest in UGI, vascular surgery, Paediatric surgery, and endocrine. Previous NHS experience is essential for this role.

Person Specification

Essential Criteria

  • Completion of ST2 level or equivalent.
  • Experience of Clinical Audit.

Desirable Criteria

  • Presentation in national/international meetings.
  • Higher Degree.
  • Formal experience in education and training.
  • Published in peer-review journals.

Skills

Essential Criteria

  • Ability to work well in a multidisciplinary environment.
  • Strong sense of responsibility.
  • Up-to-date resuscitation skills.

Desirable Criteria

  • Demonstrable interest in General surgery.
  • CCrISP, ATLS.

Knowledge

Essential Criteria

  • Previous experience of General surgery, outpatient clinics, and inpatient workload and breast surgery.

Desirable Criteria

  • Endoscopy skills.
  • Laparoscopic surgery experience.

Qualifications

Essential Criteria

  • MBBS or equivalent.
  • MRCS/FRCS or equivalent.
  • GMC Registration with license to practice.

Desirable Criteria

  • Higher Degree.

  • Able to work as part of a team and self-motivated.
