London, Greater London, United Kingdom Imperial College Healthcare NHS Trust Full time

Position Overview

The Clinical Fellowship is entirely focused on clinical practice, providing comprehensive exposure to various facets of transplant and vascular access surgery. The fellowship duration is set for 6 months, with the possibility of extension based on performance and evaluation. Responsibilities include participation in surgical procedures, including live donor operations, peritoneal dialysis (PD) lists, and vascular access surgeries under both local and general anesthesia. Fellows will also engage in ward rounds and oversee inpatient management, alongside involvement in outpatient clinics dedicated to transplant and vascular access.

Key Responsibilities

Clinical responsibilities encompass conducting ward rounds and managing inpatient care. Outpatient duties involve evaluating transplant recipients, assessing living donors, and attending post-transplant and vascular access clinics. Elective responsibilities include participation in surgical lists for live donor procedures, PD, vascular access, and general surgery/urology. The fellow will also engage in audit and governance activities, contributing to morbidity and mortality (M&M) meetings and multidisciplinary team (MDT) discussions. The fellow will join a rota with existing surgical registrars and fellows to cover middle-grade on-call duties.

About Imperial College Healthcare NHS Trust

At Imperial College Healthcare, you will have the opportunity to achieve remarkable outcomes alongside exceptional professionals, collaborating with leading clinicians who are at the forefront of patient care. Join a dynamic team that embodies our core values: expertise, kindness, collaboration, and aspiration. This role offers a unique experience that will significantly advance your career. Benefits include opportunities for professional development, flexible working arrangements, and a staff recognition program. Additional optional benefits encompass schemes for cycling to work, car leasing, season ticket loans, and access to onsite leisure facilities.

We advocate for staff to receive the Covid vaccination to safeguard themselves, patients, and colleagues, as well as the broader community. Compliance with infection prevention and control protocols, including lateral flow testing, hand hygiene, and mask-wearing, is an operational requirement.

In response to ongoing Covid-19 considerations, most interviews will be conducted virtually.

We are dedicated to promoting equal opportunities and enhancing the working lives of our staff, and we welcome applications for flexible, part-time, or job-sharing arrangements. Please discuss your preferences during the interview process.

Fellowship Responsibilities

The fellow will acquire experience in evaluating deceased donor offers and managing inpatient care. Surgical experience will include living and deceased donor transplants, laparoscopic living donor nephrectomy, general surgical procedures (such as hernia repairs and polycystic nephrectomy), transplant nephrectomy, and dialysis access interventions. Outpatient experience will cover recipient evaluations, living donor assessments, post-transplant follow-ups, and vascular access clinics. Additionally, fellows will be assigned to participate in satellite surgical clinics within the region.
