An exceptional opportunity has emerged for an Assistant Ward Manager within the Gastrointestinal Unit. The selected individual will collaborate closely with the Ward Managers to enhance the Nursing team’s efforts in delivering exemplary care to our patients.

The Gastrointestinal Unit is a 56-bed facility dedicated to the treatment of acute emergency cases, as well as specializing in Upper GI and Colorectal surgeries, along with Gastro in-patients. Engaging with our specialized patient demographic will allow the successful candidate to broaden their clinical expertise and skills. We are committed to supporting your professional growth through educational opportunities, including Pain & Epidural Training and Immediate Life Support (ILS) courses.

Key Responsibilities

As an Assistant Ward Manager, you will work in close partnership with the Ward Manager and senior staff. Your responsibilities will include:

  • Assuming managerial duties and providing support to all team members.
  • Overseeing the ward operations in the absence of the Ward Manager, ensuring all daily routines and escalated issues are managed effectively.
  • Taking charge of assessing, planning, implementing, and evaluating nursing care within the clinical setting.
  • Leading and coordinating the clinical, managerial, and educational needs of the unit, ensuring the highest standards of nursing practice are upheld.
  • Ensuring the safety and well-being of service users while promoting dignity and human rights through person-centered care principles.

Essential Qualifications and Skills

  • A proven track record in ward management, including experience in managing staff, resources, and rotas.
  • Experience in teaching, assessing, and supervising others in a clinical environment.
  • Strong organizational skills and the ability to manage time effectively for both oneself and junior staff.
  • Up-to-date knowledge of current clinical and professional issues.
  • Excellent communication skills, particularly in sensitive situations.
