About the Role

This is an exciting opportunity to join the Lewisham and Greenwich NHS Trust as a Ward Administrator. As a key member of the ward team, you will provide administrative support to ensure the smooth running of the ward.

Key Responsibilities

As a Ward Administrator, you will be responsible for:

  • Providing administrative support to the ward team, including answering phone calls, responding to emails, and dealing with patient queries.
  • Managing patient records, including registering patients, updating records, and ensuring confidentiality.
  • Coordinating the admission and discharge of patients, including booking hospital transport and liaising with the transport team.
  • Assisting with the ordering and receiving of goods, including stock management and ensuring that equipment is properly maintained.
  • Providing cover for colleagues during annual leave, sickness, and busy periods.
  • Developing working relationships with consultants, medical secretaries, and other staff members to ensure effective communication and collaboration.
  • Managing the reception area, including maintaining a tidy and organized environment, and ensuring that all necessary documents are up to date.
  • Assisting with the completion of administrative tasks, including data entry, filing, and photocopying.
  • Providing support for the ward team, including attending meetings, taking minutes, and providing administrative assistance as required.

Requirements

To be successful in this role, you will need:

  • A good standard of education, including NVQ 2 and additional experience equating to NVQ 3.
  • Previous experience of working in a busy environment and in an administrative role.
  • Basic computer literacy, including proficiency in Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.
  • Good organizational and administration skills, including the ability to work well under pressure and meet deadlines.
  • Effective communication skills, including the ability to communicate with patients, staff, and external agencies.
  • A basic understanding of practical data protection issues and knowledge of child and adult protection issues.
  • Able to work well within a team, including the ability to work outside normal working hours on occasion if necessary.
