Position Overview

The NHS Leicester, Leicestershire and Rutland Integrated Care Board is seeking to appoint a Lead Pharmacist specializing in Medicines Management.

In this role, you will collaborate with a skilled team of pharmacists and pharmacy technicians, engaging at various levels within the healthcare system to enhance all facets of medicines management aligned with our strategic goals.

This position is open to pharmacists from diverse healthcare backgrounds who fulfill the required qualifications and possess relevant experience.

While a significant portion of the responsibilities can be performed remotely, occasional travel to various healthcare facilities within the region will be necessary.

Key Responsibilities

Primary Duties and Responsibilities

  1. Assist in the formulation and execution of the operational strategy for Medicines Management across local healthcare practices and services.
  2. Provide expert pharmaceutical guidance and support to stakeholders, ensuring alignment with the operational framework.
  3. Act as a deputy for senior pharmacists and the Head of Medicines Management when required.
  4. Deliver specialized advice on medications and therapies to inform clinical priorities and patient treatment plans.
  5. Develop and implement policies to ensure safe handling of medications, meeting quality and risk management standards.
  6. Facilitate educational initiatives on legal, policy, and therapeutic aspects of medicines to enhance safe prescribing practices.
  7. Oversee and mentor team members involved in operational activities.
  8. Address inquiries and complaints, maintaining accountability for all professional actions as a registered pharmacist.

Strategic Planning and Organization

In this role, you will:

  1. Support the Head of Medicines Management and senior pharmacists in leading key initiatives across the Integrated Care Board.
  2. Provide high-quality strategic and operational policy advice, staying informed on relevant healthcare policies.
  3. Identify opportunities for improvement and prioritize initiatives within the team.
  4. Contribute to the strategic planning of projects, ensuring alignment with organizational goals.
  5. Monitor progress against established plans and milestones.

Service Enhancement

Continuously seek ways to optimize team processes and systems, ensuring timely and cost-effective delivery of services. This includes:

  1. Reviewing procedures to identify areas for improvement.
  2. Championing patient involvement in policy development.
  3. Ensuring compliance with safety and quality standards in medication handling.

Data Analysis and Decision Making

Utilize analytical skills to:

  1. Conduct comprehensive analyses of complex data from various sources.
  2. Support the development and enhancement of business cases and reports.
  3. Make informed decisions on complex issues, considering multiple options.

Communication and Relationship Management

Foster constructive relationships with a wide range of stakeholders, effectively communicating complex information through various channels, including reports and meetings.

Financial Oversight

As a budget holder, you will:

  1. Monitor and manage financial resources in accordance with organizational policies.
  2. Provide financial updates and reports as necessary.

Team Leadership

Oversee team operations, including recruitment, development, and performance management, ensuring adherence to organizational values.

Research and Development

Coordinate research initiatives, ensuring alignment with national and local policies on medicines management.

Policy Development

Lead the development and implementation of policies and guidelines that meet regulatory standards and best practices in medication management.

Qualifications and Experience

Essential

  • Registered with the General Pharmaceutical Council.
  • Postgraduate qualification in clinical pharmacy or equivalent.
  • Demonstrated commitment to continuous professional development.
  • Strong understanding of Integrated Care Boards and their relationship with NHS England.
  • Experience in budget management and stakeholder engagement.

Desirable

  • Experience in an operational healthcare setting.
  • Ability to provide policy advice on complex topics.
