Position Overview

(40% Clinical Paediatrics / 60% Paediatric Clinical Trials)

We are seeking to appoint a Senior Paediatric Clinical Trials Pharmacist.

In the role of Lead Clinical Trials Pharmacist for paediatrics, the successful candidate will collaborate with the Clinical Management Group, the children's research team, and the pharmacy trials team. The individual will be responsible for engaging with commercial partners to ensure thorough support for both new and ongoing clinical studies.

Applicants should possess a solid background in clinical trials, including direct patient care, logistics, and setup. A comprehensive understanding of Good Clinical Practice is essential.

The ideal candidate will have experience in delivering pharmaceutical care and services tailored to children.

Applicants should have several years of post-qualification experience, a postgraduate diploma, and extensive knowledge in paediatric pharmacy. The right individual will be an innovative pharmacist eager to enhance both their professional development and the pharmacy service.

Both positions will necessitate independent work, meticulous attention to detail, and exceptional verbal and written communication skills, along with effective influencing and negotiation abilities.

Eligibility Requirement

Applicants must be registered as a UK Pharmacist to be considered for this position.

Key Responsibilities

  • Assist the Principal Pharmacist for Clinical Trials in the establishment and enhancement of the clinical trials service, ensuring compliance with all regulations regarding Investigational Medicinal Products (IMPs) and related substances.
  • Conduct clinical and feasibility assessments of clinical trial protocols involving IMPs.
  • Manage negotiations with sponsors and investigators regarding facilities, resources, capacity planning, and financial arrangements in clinical trial management.
  • Serve as the professional lead for all pharmaceutical contributions in accordance with legal standards and Good Clinical Practice.
  • Oversee pharmacy personnel as required.
  • Develop and implement local policies and guidelines for Women's and Children's Medicines.
  • Professionally verify, dispense, and perform final accuracy checks on clinical trial prescriptions in line with Trust standards.
  • Maintain and advance expert clinical practice in the specialty area.
  • Lead and enhance the specialist clinical pharmacy service, ensuring the safe, clinical, and cost-effective use of medications.
  • Deliver highly specialized pharmaceutical care to patients and support healthcare professionals in fulfilling risk management, financial management, and clinical governance responsibilities related to medication use.

Job Responsibilities

1. Adhere to all organizational policies and procedures, particularly those related to pharmacy, including the Leicestershire Medicines Code.

2. Comply with the General Pharmaceutical Council (GPhC) Code of Ethics for Pharmacists and Pharmacy Technicians at all times.

3. Support the Chief Pharmacist in specific management issues and projects, contributing to the overall organization, administration, and management of the Pharmacy department.

4. Participate in and/or conduct relevant clinical audits to meet Clinical Governance requirements.

5. Engage in and document ongoing professional development.

6. Participate in flexible shift work, including evenings, weekends, and bank holidays, in line with service commitments, including dispensary duties as needed.

7. Undertake on-call responsibilities as required by service needs.

8. Perform any other duties as reasonably requested by senior staff.

Qualifications & Experience

Essential

  • Master's degree in pharmacy.
  • Registered Pharmacist with the General Pharmaceutical Council.
  • Completion of a postgraduate preregistration year.
  • Postgraduate clinical qualification or equivalent knowledge gained through extensive experience.

Desirable

  • Membership in the Royal Pharmaceutical Society of Great Britain.
  • Evidence of leadership development or qualifications.
  • Experience in practice research projects.
  • Membership in NPPG.
  • Membership in UKCPA.
