Leicester, Leicester, United Kingdom University Hospitals of Leicester NHS Trust Full time

Position Overview

Are you a GPhC registered Pharmacy Technician eager to contribute to innovative patient care through advanced research?

If so, we invite you to explore this opportunity.

The Pharmacy Clinical Trials service at University Hospitals of Leicester (UHL) plays a vital role within the clinical research multidisciplinary team. Our mission is to deliver a secure and effective service in the execution of Investigational Medicinal Product (IMP) studies throughout UHL. Our Pharmacy Clinical Trials team is a welcoming, diverse, and dynamic service managing a portfolio of approximately 200 studies, with a significant focus on cancer trials conducted at the esteemed Hope Cancer Trials Centre. UHL stands as one of the largest and most active teaching Trusts in the nation, providing care to over one million individuals in the region.

We are seeking a GPhC registered Pharmacy Technician to assist our Oncology Clinical Trials Pharmacists, Cancer Services Lead Pharmacy Technicians, Chief Operational Technician, Clinical Trial Coordinators, and support personnel in the seamless operation of our expanding Clinical Trials Service. This position will primarily be based at the Leicester Royal Infirmary, with occasional cross-site responsibilities. You will be expected to collaborate with the broader pharmacy team and participate in evening, weekend, bank holiday, and on-call shifts as necessary.

Key Responsibilities

The successful candidate will work closely with pharmacy colleagues and oncology & haematology research personnel to facilitate and prioritize the establishment and management of studies. Responsibilities include:

  • Liaising with commercial entities, clinicians, and the Research & Innovation Department to ensure comprehensive support for clinical trials.
  • Assisting cancer trial pharmacists in evaluating trial feasibility, developing chemotherapy care plans, processing trial amendments, and reviewing trial protocols.
  • Supervising and guiding the work of other clinical trial technicians to aid in trial setup.
  • Adhering to the strict guidelines of ICH GCP, the European Clinical Trials Directive, and Trust and Departmental Standard Operating Procedures.

We are looking for a motivated, responsible, and proactive pharmacy technician with strong time management, organizational, and prioritization skills. Excellent communication, problem-solving abilities, and teamwork, along with a professional demeanor, are essential. While experience in clinical trials is advantageous, it is not mandatory. Previous leadership and line management experience will be beneficial.
