Job Purpose The postholder will lead on the practice development within the Community Perinatal Service, including organising inductions for new staff, on-going continuous professional development for existing staff and championing the Perinatal Competency Framework standards. Leading on perinatal mental health external (Midwives, Health Visitors) and within the trust training and education. Manage the professional development plans and supervision for new Perinatal Mental Health Practitioners. Having a key role in perinatal mental health research within the wider Perinatal Service will be contingent to the role as well.

Duties and Responsibilities Communication and Working Relationships Work in partnership with all health, social care professionals and other stakeholders maintaining effective communication that benefits the patients wellbeing. The post holder will support the management of complex, confidential and sensitive information and will be required to utilise developed communication skills to use at meetings or user groups, telephone duties, advice and guidance to other staff. To be effective, clear and accurate when using all forms or communication throughout the organisation, using different styles and methods of communicating relevant to the complexity of the context and recipient. To organise and facilitate meetings, and participate in Trust wide meetings ensuring effective cascading of information to area of responsibility.

To ensure effective methods and systems are in place to facilitate communication with all members of the multi-disciplinary team, between ward based team members, ward members and other areas of the Trust and wider Network. Analytical and Judgement Skills To undertake complex decision making across a variety of areas including risk management, financial management, flow and capacity. To make sound judgements in a timely manner. To consider a range of options that may require a degree of analysis, comparison or interpretation.

To provide clinical leadership and role modelling. To act as a clinical expert in providing advice direction and leadership to clinical and professional colleagues. Planning and Organisation Skills To plan and organise training packages ensuring effective use of available resources, maintain quality, evidence based practice and ensure this is within budget. Implement and evaluate systems to monitor professional development of staff in line with the Perinatal Competency Framework.

Ensure a high standard of training and education is prepared, delivered and evaluated. Lead on student placements across the service. Responsibility for Patient/Client Care, Treatment and Therapy Responsible for working with the Perinatal Service Manager to ensure training packages are developed and fully implemented. To take a key role in the development, delivery and evaluation of evidence based training.

Responsible for the setting of quality standards including monitoring and reviewing in line with current clinical guidance, practice and policy. Responsible for ensuring that the requirements of the Mental Health Act 1983 & 2007 are clearly understood by all staff within the Community Perinatal setting. Responsibility for Policy and Service Development Implementation To actively participate in audit activities on the ward as directed by the Directorate of nursing leads, service / care delivery requirements. To effectively manage projects.

To explore innovative ways of delivering and improving patient care. To critically evaluate research findings. To maintain an enquiring approach to patient care ensuring current and evidence based practice is the basis of care / treatment provision. To lead and promote all clinical practice as being research and evidence based.

Responsible for commenting on and the development where appropriate of Trust Clinical Policies within their sphere of responsibility. To be aware of Clinical Governance issues using the incident reporting procedure. Actively participate in quality improvement projects, including identifying areas for improvement within the service Responsibility for Finance, Equipment and Other Resources Manage the designated training programme budgets. Authorize payments to internal / external contracts within agreed levels of responsibility.

Establish an efficient working environment making the most effective use of staff, supplies, equipment and services. Responsibility for Human resources, e.g. Supervision, Training, HR Advice and Management Supervision and supporting all members of the multi-disciplinary team and nurturing a positive learning culture and team cohesion. To develop and empower junior staff Co-ordinate and assist in nurse recruitment and retention initiatives To provide mentorship and clinical training and supervision for students and junior staff.
