About the Role

We are seeking a highly motivated and compassionate Perinatal Mother Care Specialist to join our team at Devon Partnership NHS Trust. As a Deputy Manager, you will play a key role in supporting the Ward Manager in setting up standards, promoting change, and developing nursing practice, supervision, and audit.

Key Responsibilities
  • Leadership and Supervision
    • Lead and supervise staff to provide high-quality, effective care to patients and their families.
    • Develop and implement standards and policies for use in adult inpatient settings.
  • Communication and Working Relationship Skills
    • Develop and maintain effective communication with all health, social care professionals, and stakeholders.
    • Liaise with carers, families, and user groups to represent the service.
  • Planning and Organisational Skills
    • Act as Nurse in Charge and lead the shift confidently, ensuring patient safety is the priority at all times.
    • Deputise for the manager in their absence.
    • Develop and implement efficient working environments, making the most effective use of staff, supplies, equipment, and services.
  • Responsibility for Patient/Client Care, Treatment, and Therapy
    • Ensure that care plans are implemented and reviewed as part of ongoing assessment.
    • Ensure that robust, up-to-date risk assessments are carried out by relevant staff.
    • Ensure standards of care are maintained to the highest level.
  • Responsibility for Policy and Service Development Implementation
    • Work with the Ward Manager to review, update, and implement standards and policies for use in adult inpatient settings.
    • Participate in ongoing training and education progress.
    • Be aware of current initiatives in inpatient care.
  • Responsibility for Finance, Equipment, and Other Resources
    • Establish an efficient working environment, making the most effective use of staff, supplies, equipment, and services.
    • Demonstrate effective risk management.
  • Responsibility for Human Resources
    • Provide supervision and appraisals for qualified staff.
    • Demonstrate effective leadership/management skills.
    • Participate in the role of mentor to students.
  • Responsibility for Information Resources and Administrative Duties
    • Ensure accurate documentation.
    • Ensure that clinical/care records, both written and electronic, are accurate and consistent with professional and organisational requirements.

  • Planning & Organisational Skills
    • Lead and supervise staff to provide a high-quality, effective service.
    • Good liaison skills and ability to manage difficult and complex situations.
    • Effectively able to manage own time and that of the team.
    • Ability to work flexibly.
  • Experience
    • Substantial post-registration experience.
    • Experience as a Band 5 in an acute inpatient setting.
    • Experience working within a multidisciplinary team.
    • Clinical Supervision and Mentoring Experience.
    • Experience of managing staff.
    • Mentoring students in line with professional requirements.
    • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
    • Basic computer skills.
    • Able to provide and receive complex, sensitive information in relation to staff, service users, families, and carers.
  • Analytical & Judgemental Skills
    • Able to problem-solve and assist others in this process.
    • Effectively manage admission/discharge.
    • Ability to assess and manage risk effectively.
  • Qualifications
    • A professional Mental Health Nursing qualification.
    • Evidence of PREP.
    • Teaching qualification Mentors 998.
  • Desirable
    • Experience in Perinatal Mental Health.
  • Other
    • Able to undertake nursing procedures, manual handling, physical restraint, etc.
    • An Enhanced DBS Check will be required for this role.
