Lead Clinical Psychologist for Perinatal Services

Position Overview
We are seeking to recruit a skilled and dedicated Clinical or Counselling Psychologist to join our specialized team within the Mother & Baby unit. This role is available on a fixed-term or secondment basis and is designed for professionals who are passionate about enhancing mental health services for families.
Key Responsibilities
The primary objective of this position is to enhance the psychological wellbeing of women experiencing severe and complex mental health challenges during the perinatal phase, along with their infants and families.
The successful candidate will be responsible for the following:
- Collaborating with the Professional Lead and Service Managers to ensure the delivery of a high-quality psychological service within this specialized area.
- Providing clinical leadership and mentorship to junior staff, trainees, and volunteers associated with the service.
- Managing a specialized caseload and offering expert advice and consultancy to both clients and healthcare professionals.
- Operating independently within established professional guidelines while ensuring adherence to the systematic governance of psychological practices.
- Contributing to the development and assessment of services by engaging in audit and research initiatives.
- Upholding all relevant Professional Codes of Conduct and Practice, including those set forth by the British Psychological Society. Registration with the Health Care Professions Council or an equivalent professional body is a prerequisite for this role.
Regular professional and clinical supervision will be provided in accordance with Trust policies and the guidelines established by the British Psychological Society or the relevant professional body.
Candidate Profile
Qualifications
Essential
- Qualified Clinical or Counselling Psychologist (or equivalent) with eligibility for Chartered status in the British Psychological Society and registration with HCPC. Psychological Therapists must have a Master’s level qualification or equivalent in a specific psychological therapy and be registered with a recognized professional body such as UKCP or BABCP.
- Additional training in at least one other psychological therapy.
Desirable
- Further training or experience in Perinatal Mental Health.
- Additional training in related fields.
- Training in clinical supervision.
Experience
Essential
- Proven experience in leadership roles within clinical psychology services in the NHS, contributing to the development and evaluation of clinical strategies and policies in multidisciplinary contexts.
- Experience in conducting specialist psychological assessments and treatments across various care settings, including outpatient, community, primary care, and inpatient environments.
- Experience in delivering psychological services within multidisciplinary and/or multi-agency frameworks.
- Background in adult mental health services, particularly with individuals facing severe and complex mental health issues.
- Experience in teaching, training, and/or supervision.
Desirable
- Experience working with women facing severe and complex mental health challenges during the perinatal period.
- Training and/or experience in diversity awareness and addressing social inequalities.
- Proficiency in both individual and group therapy methodologies.
