Role Summary

The Perinatal Matron will collaborate with the Senior Leadership Team on the following:

Ensure that appropriate operational workforce planning ensures adequate staffing to deliver the highest standard of care

Meet the national commitment to achieve staffing establishment levels and fill rates by 7/ for midwifery and neonatal nursing staff.

Develop staff retention improvement action plans to identify and address local training opportunities and retention issues.

Implement the core competency framework that will guide local mandatory training programs to keep staff’s skills relevant to their roles up to date.

Ensure all perinatal staff have the opportunity for continuous professional development by taking responsibility for assessing training and learning needs by planning, implementing and evaluating the education and training across the service.

Strategically and operationally work within the perinatal team to promote the teaching, training, and ongoing development of midwifery and nursing staff.

Ensure that the non-registered workforce’s personal, professional, and practice development is an active process within Perinatal Services.

Provide leadership and management expertise.

A fantastic opportunity has arisen for an enthusiastic individual to our existing team at Royal Devon University Health Care NHS Foundation Trust as Perinatal Matron. The primary objective of this team is to adopt a perinatal approach to delivering safer, more personalised, and equitable care at RDUH, as set out in the Three-Year Delivery Plan for Maternity and Neonatal Services. The Perinatal Matron will be an experienced individual who is passionate about driving transformational change in healthcare and will work side by side and in collaboration with the current midwifery and children’s matrons. The post holder will serve as an expert midwifery or neonatal nursing practitioner and role model to develop a workforce capable of providing safe and high-quality care standards.

Working Pattern: hours, Monday to Friday with a slot on the on-call senior nurse rota.

Interview Date: To be confirmed, however likely to be week of th September 4

Pay: The salary advertised for this position reflects the Agenda for Change 4-5 rates, inclusive of a pay award implemented from October 4. If you join before this date, the pay award will be backdated to April 4 or your start date, whichever is later. Until then, remuneration will be based on the 3-4 pay bandings (Pay scales for 3/ | NHS Employers).
