Sheffield, United Kingdom Sheffield City Council Full time

Job description

**Join Sheffield City Council as a Business Support Officer within Children’s Services**

Sheffield’s Children and Families Business Support Service is looking for a bright and motivated individual to join us as a Business Support Officer and help make a meaningful impact to the lives of children and young people in Sheffield.

We have teams across Sheffield supporting different functions within Children and Families. If based within this team, you would be supporting the QAIS Teams of Child Protection Service, Child Protection conferencing, and Childrens Involvement Independent Volunteer Scheme. However all our Business Support staff join our citywide service so could be placed in or moved to any of our teams if required.

We offer an established career progression route and the experience needed to move into other areas within Sheffield City Council, such as Project Support, HR and Finance.

**The difference you’ll make as a Business Support Officer**:
You will be working with other Business Support colleagues to provide a proactive customer-focused business support service to teams across Children and Families, making a meaningful impact for vulnerable young people in Sheffield.

Working in Children and Families you will hear and read sensitive information, but training and support will be provided.

**What your working day will look like**:
You will carry out a variety of tasks, such as:

- Monitoring the team in-boxes and responding to queries
- Supporting customers in person or on the phone
- Processing work requests, such as arranging Child Protection Conferences and Independent Volunteer expenses,
- Interrogating the council system to gather information, feeding back to professionals and logging enquiries
- Ordering goods/services and processing financial transactions
- Supporting meetings and taking notes

**About you**:
You will have:

- A minimum of 5 GCSEs (including both English and Maths) or equivalent qualification and have proven experience in a similar administrative role.
- Excellent communication, organisation, and time management skills and be motivated to work under pressure and in a confidential manner.
- Experience of using IT systems such as Outlook, Word, Excel, and Teams.
- Experience of working in a busy office environment with a good understanding of office processes and procedures, strong problem-solving and decision-making abilities.

Business Support Officers are required to be flexible in terms of area of work and location and need to be able to adapt to changing priorities and deadlines.

We are looking for committed, passionate, enthusiastic, self-motivated individuals who are confident in verbal and written communication. The service handles private and confidential information, so discretion and confidentiality are essential.

**Working for Sheffield City Council, you’ll enjoy**:
The opportunity for career growth and development.

A collaborative and supportive work culture which encourages inclusion and diversity.

Ongoing training and development opportunities.

A range of health and wellbeing support.

If you are a motivated and detail-oriented individual looking for a rewarding and challenging role, this is the perfect opportunity for you. Join our team and contribute to our continued success.

We are investing in our workforce and are promoting opportunities to our under-represented groups. We value equality, diversity and inclusion and are focused on increasing the diversity of our workforce, particularly the number of Black, Asian, Minority Ethnic, Disabled and LGBTQ+ people, so that our teams reflect the communities in the city we serve. We are also supporting staff with unpaid caring responsibilities to work flexibly.

Under the Disability Confident Scheme, disabled applicants, who meet the essential criteria of this job, are guaranteed an interview.

Full-time employees work 37 hours for 52 weeks of the year and we offer a generous holiday entitlement. We are open to discussions about a wide range of flexible working opportunities which benefit you and the Council, including reduced hour contracts, working part time or as a job share.

If you are appointed to this role, your starting salary will be at the bottom of the grade. If you provide payslip evidence that your basic pay is greater than the bottom of the grade, we will consider starting you at the point of minimum advantage within the grade.
