The Southbank Centre is Europe's largest arts centre and one of the UK's top five visitor attractions, occupying an 11-acre site that sits in the midst of London's most vibrant cultural quarter on the South Bank of the Thames.

Sitting within the Development Department, the Philanthropy team focuses on soliciting major gifts from generous individuals and looks after donors in recognition of the support they give to the Southbank Centre. The team comprises a Head of Philanthropy, two Philanthropy Managers, a Philanthropy Executive and an Events and Stewardship Assistant.

Key responsibilities

To ensure the replenishment of the donor pipeline by finding potential new high-value donors through research, contacts and relationship management and identifying possible motivations for giving.To build relationships in order to approach prospective individual donors for funding and generate significant income.To assist the Philanthropy Team in stewarding and cultivating major donors through special events and bespoke opportunities.Work with the Philanthropy Team to develop and implement the strategy to secure major gifts and recruit and steward Patrons.Secure meetings with prospective supporters, and undertake detailed research and briefing (for self and others) in preparation for those meetings.Work closely with the arts programming teams to identify opportunities for support within Southbank Centre's programme.Manage the Philanthropy project tracker.Prepare and draft compelling proposals and engaging reports.Manage funding approaches to potential donors including involving senior volunteers and management. Knowledge, skills and experienceExperience of meeting income targets.Shows an understanding of fundraising within an arts organisation, or from the wider non-profit sector, including key challenges that the cultural sector faces.An ability to self-motivate and thrive under pressure in a fast-paced environment.Being results-oriented and able to demonstrate a systematic approach when solving complex issues.A creative approach and an ability to come up with new ideas.An interest in the wider arts.An ability to make decisions in a changing environment and anticipate future needs.Effectively communicate both verbally and in writing Demonstrate confidence while interacting with a wide range of people, including Southbank Centre's Board of Governors, staff and donors.Strong numerical skills.IT skills, ideally including a working knowledge of Google systems (Gmail, Google Drive etc).An understanding of and commitment to the role that diversity and inclusion play in the activities of the Southbank Centre as a whole and in the work of this particular job.
