Merrifield Consultants is collaborating with a charitable organization focused on youth to recruit a Director of Philanthropic Initiatives. This pivotal role will be instrumental in enhancing the organization's fundraising strategies, particularly in the realms of trusts & foundations, significant donors, and legacy contributions. We seek a dedicated professional with a proven track record in managing fundraising portfolios and exceptional leadership capabilities.

Key Responsibilities:
  1. Establish and maintain essential systems and processes for philanthropy, conduct research on potential donors, strategize outreach, and nurture relationships.
  2. Oversee the Philanthropy portfolio, which includes trusts, statutory funders, major donors, corporate partnerships, legacies, and mid-level contributions.
  3. Expand and manage the fundraising portfolio effectively.
  4. Draft persuasive proposals and funding applications.
  5. Manage and cultivate a portfolio of prospects capable of contributing between £10,000 and £1 million+, ensuring high levels of annual income are achieved according to set targets.
  6. Engage with existing donors to foster ongoing support and identify new giving opportunities.
  7. Identify and connect with potential major donors.
  8. Coordinate major gift solicitations in collaboration with senior colleagues and the Board.
  9. Provide reports to funders and donors regarding the utilization of their contributions.
  10. Enhance and coordinate the charity's event initiatives.
Team Leadership:
  1. Set clear objectives for the Philanthropy team, defining performance indicators and annual income targets.
  2. Support team members in achieving their objectives while fostering strong leadership.
Strategic Development:
  1. Take a leading role in shaping and managing the Philanthropy strategy.
  2. Lead the formulation and execution of new strategies for mid-level and legacy giving, in partnership with the Individual Giving team.
  3. Ensure a unified fundraising approach that integrates high-value, individual, and legacy contributions.
Qualifications and Skills:
  1. A strong passion for the arts, youth, or education sectors.
  2. Ability to build robust relationships both internally and externally.
  3. Extensive experience in fundraising, particularly in securing substantial gifts and grants.
  4. Experience collaborating with Senior Leadership and board members.
  5. Proven ability to develop and manage a strategic plan with defined goals and objectives.
  6. Exceptional written and verbal communication skills.
  7. Strong collaborative leadership abilities.
