Philanthropy Officer

The British Museum is seeking a highly motivated and experienced Philanthropy Officer to join its Advancement Department. The successful candidate will be responsible for securing income from a range of philanthropic supporters, including individuals and private trusts.
Key Responsibilities- Raise Funds: Manage a pipeline of contacts, developing and implementing bespoke cultivation and stewardship strategies to secure donations for Museum priorities.
- Manage Relationships: Proactively manage a pipeline of c. 75 contacts, deepening their relationships with the Museum and identifying new prospects for major gifts.
- Research and Write Proposals: Research and write persuasive fundraising proposals for core activity and priority projects at the five-figure gift levels.
- Collaborate with Teams: Work closely with the prospect research function and the wider Philanthropy team to identify new prospects for major gifts.
- Attend Events: Attend cultivation and stewardship events, and identify existing donors with the capacity for additional giving.
- Meet with Prospects: Meet with prospects either alone or with colleagues, including to present fundraising proposals.
- Develop Relationships with Museum Colleagues: Develop effective working relationships with Museum colleagues, including curators, senior representatives, and advocates.
- Ensure Donor Care: Ensure the highest standard of donor care, through effective stewardship, financial gift management, thanking, reporting, and acknowledging.
- Adhere to Internal Processes: Adhere to internal processes and procedures for fundraising, reporting, financial management, and information management across the Philanthropy Team.
The successful candidate will be an effective face-to-face fundraiser with experience of securing high-value donations and managing the full lifecycle of significant donor relationships.
You will be highly motivated and able to work under pressure to meet deadlines and financial targets, with excellent communication and people management skills.
