About the Role

The British Museum is seeking a highly motivated and experienced Philanthropy Officer to join its Advancement Department. As a key member of the Philanthropy Team, you will play a vital role in securing income from philanthropic supporters, including individuals and private trusts.

Key Responsibilities
  1. Contribute to and support the Museum's work to secure income from a range of philanthropic supporters, managing your own prospect pipeline with mentoring and support from the Philanthropy Manager.
  2. Proactively manage a pipeline of contacts, developing and implementing bespoke cultivation and stewardship strategies for each one, deepening their relationships with the Museum.
  3. Research and write persuasive fundraising proposals for core activity and priority projects at the five-figure gift levels.
  4. Work closely with the prospect research function and the wider Philanthropy team to identify new prospects for major gifts.
  5. Attend cultivation and stewardship events, and identify existing donors with the capacity for additional giving.
  6. Meet with prospects either alone or with colleagues, including to present fundraising proposals.
  7. Arrange meetings between the Advancement department, curators, other relevant Museum colleagues and prospects, and follow-up in a timely manner.
  8. Develop effective working relationships with Museum colleagues, including curators, senior representatives, and advocates.
  9. Ensure the highest standard of donor care, through effective stewardship, financial gift management, thanking, reporting, and acknowledging.
  10. Adhere to internal processes and procedures for fundraising, reporting, financial management, and information management across the Philanthropy Team.
About You

The successful candidate will be an effective face-to-face fundraiser with experience of securing high-value donations and managing the full lifecycle of significant donor relationships.

You will be highly motivated and able to work under pressure to meet deadlines and financial targets, with excellent communication and people management skills.
