Birkbeck College seeks a driven and experienced Lead Philanthropy Strategist to join our Development & Alumni Team during an exciting period of growth and transformation.

As we celebrate our 200th anniversary and conclude our ambitious fundraising campaign, 'The World Needs More Birkbeck', your expertise will be instrumental in securing significant philanthropic support for the College's future ambitions and enhancing the student experience.

You will manage a diverse portfolio of approximately 100 individuals, corporations, and foundations, cultivating new relationships and nurturing existing partnerships. Your primary focus will be on developing compelling proposals to secure substantial unrestricted gifts, ranging from five to seven figures, that align with Birkbeck's strategic goals.

This role involves close collaboration with the Deputy Director of Philanthropy and a dedicated team of six philanthropy fundraisers. You will also mentor and guide a Development Officer to achieve their income targets.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Develop and execute strategic fundraising plans to secure major gifts from individuals, corporations, and foundations.
  • Identify, cultivate, and steward relationships with high-net-worth prospects and donors.
  • Craft compelling proposals and presentations that effectively communicate Birkbeck's mission and impact.
  • Manage a portfolio of existing donor relationships, ensuring ongoing engagement and satisfaction.
  • Collaborate with colleagues across the College to identify fundraising opportunities and integrate philanthropy into institutional priorities.
  • Provide guidance and mentorship to junior development staff.

Ideal Candidate Profile:

  • Proven track record in fundraising or client relationship management, with a demonstrable history of success in achieving financial targets.
  • Strong understanding of philanthropic principles and best practices.
  • Excellent communication, interpersonal, and presentation skills.
  • Proficiency in Raisers Edge or similar fundraising database software.
  • Passion for education and commitment to Birkbeck's mission.
