About the Role

The Royal College of Physicians seeks a visionary and accomplished Lead Philanthropy Strategist to spearhead our fundraising efforts. This critical role will shape the future of our organization by developing and executing a multi-year fundraising campaign, ensuring we achieve ambitious income generation targets annually.

Key Responsibilities

  • Craft and implement a comprehensive fundraising strategy in collaboration with senior leadership, trustees, and volunteers.
  • Elevate our fundraising profile by showcasing donor contributions and the impact of funded projects across all levels.
  • Refine our communications strategy to produce compelling digital and print materials that engage potential donors.
  • Develop and manage a program of engagement between the President/CEO and major gift prospects, both domestically and internationally.
  • Guide the Development Committee in providing strategic advice, monitoring progress towards fundraising goals, identifying new prospects, and cultivating relationships with key stakeholders.
  • Cultivate a culture of philanthropy within the organization by supporting the development of fundraising skills among colleagues at all levels.
  • Maximize the fundraising potential of our heritage collections, including the museum, archive, and library.
  • Ensure rigorous due diligence on prospective donors and adherence to internal policies and procedures for fundraising, reporting, financial management, and information management.
  • Oversee the existing awards program administered by the Development Administrator.

About You

  • You possess a proven track record of success in fundraising leadership roles.
  • You have substantial experience securing major gifts from individuals, trusts/foundations, or corporate partners, including six-figure donations.
  • You excel at influencing and negotiating with senior stakeholders both internally and externally. You can articulate compelling propositions and confidently make the ask for a gift.
  • You have a demonstrated ability to develop and refine fundraising strategies over time, incorporating innovation, creativity, and best practices from peer organizations.
  • You are a skilled relationship builder with a proven ability to cultivate and maintain strong relationships with major philanthropic partners and potential partners.
  • You possess exceptional networking skills to build and sustain a network of supporters for the Royal College of Physicians.
  • You have a track record of successful line management that fosters a motivated and high-performing team.
  • You are a strategic thinker with strong decision-making abilities, an understanding of complex environments, and exceptional communication skills.
  • You are highly organized and able to prioritize effectively to achieve optimal outcomes in a dynamic environment.
  • You have a solid understanding of fundraising regulations and compliance requirements.
