Job summary
The Surgical Research Fellow will be exposed to a wide variety of advanced surgical procedures, in a busy tertiary hospital and offers numerous opportunities to develop important research the year the main focus of the Surgical Research Fellow will be to conduct clinical studies, participate in the collection of clinical research data and undertake laboratory-based work. Publication of research material and presentations at National and International conferences is expected.
Main duties of the job
This post would be suitable for any trainee who has successfully completed a 2-year Foundation School programme or has achieved equivalent competencies. Previous experience of SHO work or equivalent in general surgery would be advantageous. Ideally, trainees will have completed their MRCP Part One and will have an up-to-date certification for Adult Life Support training.
Although these appointments are not accredited for training the appointees will be expected to participate fully in the educational and training programmes within each department and the hospital. Appointees will have a named educational leave and study leave is commensurate with other post foundation doctors. The experience and opportunities offered would be excellent experience for applicants planning a career in medicine.

The Surgical Research Fellow (SRF) posts advertised combine clinical research with an on-call commitment.
The postholders' spend significant time in research. Projects may be partly clinically based or may have a laboratory component in collaboration with general Surgery firms.
The position is for 12 months initially, but it may be possible to extend a contract depending on satisfactory progress and mutual clinical component of the posts is to provide on-call cover in conjunction with the JCF on-call rota.
