Position Overview

Imperial College Healthcare NHS Trust is seeking to recruit a Research Fellow in the field of Otolaryngology. This role is designed for a higher surgical trainee in Otolaryngology within the UK, focusing on a dedicated research period at Imperial College NHS Healthcare Trust. The position includes opportunities for clinical practice, including surgical procedures and outpatient clinics, as well as participation in the on-call rota. There is potential for an extension of the role for those who pursue a PhD at Imperial College London, with the aim of achieving a doctoral degree through the research conducted.

Key Responsibilities

The successful candidate will be involved in:

  • Training and mentoring junior medical staff in the ENT surgery department.
  • Supervising MSc students engaged in related research projects.
  • Participating in the recruitment process for ongoing clinical trials.

During the tenure in the ENT department, the individual can expect to enhance their clinical and surgical competencies. The role is integral to the ENT clinical team, which is dedicated to the assessment and management of ENT disorders. The post-holder will be expected to actively engage in the management of patient care pathways. Additionally, time will be allocated in the weekly schedule for continuing professional development, audit, research, and educational activities to support the training of junior colleagues.

  • Developing and maintaining the necessary competencies for the role.
  • Ensuring timely attendance at scheduled clinical activities.
  • Involving patients in their care decisions and addressing their feedback.
  • Research, Education, and Training: Collaborating with academic and clinical peers to enhance the Trust's research initiatives while adhering to research governance standards. Providing high-quality education to medical students and other healthcare professionals as required. Acting as an educational supervisor and appraiser as designated by the divisional or clinical director to ensure the training post meets external accreditation standards.
  • Management of Medical Staff: Collaborating with colleagues to ensure compliance with junior doctors' working hours in accordance with relevant regulations. Participating in the recruitment of junior medical staff as directed by the divisional or clinical director.

The post-holder will be encouraged and supported to develop research initiatives that align with their prior experience and complement existing programs within the broader research framework of the directorate and Trust.
