Main duties of the job

The post holder will be supporting the development and delivery of education and training programmes in particular the Multi-Professional Preceptorship and Beyond Preceptorship Programme within the Trust.

To maintain the standard to achieve Preceptorship Quality Marks and make improvements in line with framework requirements and recommendations

The role will focus on the provision of a high standard of education and support to a wide range of staff including existing staff, newly registered practitioners including nurses, midwives, nursing associates and allied healthcare professionals. We are therefore seeking an individual who can work autonomously, prioritise effectively, and use initiative to deliver to targets.

As a key member of the education and learning team you will be working closely with practice educators in the provision of a wide range of training programmes that develops knowledge and skills among staff and learners.

It is essential applicants have excellent communication and presentation skills, experience in training delivery and management. The ability to provide ongoing supervision, support and monitoring of progress including the ability to work with all staff groups. You will also need to have excellent organisational and interpersonal skills with the ability to adopt different approaches to learning to meet the needs of the varied staff group. You will also need to have a good level of IT skills.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities

Training and Development 

1.To be the operational lead for developing the Trusts Preceptorship and Beyond Preceptorship programme for newly registered staff, return to practice, overseas nurses and other practitioners who require the programme to ensure the workforce is fit for purpose.

2.To support the development and delivery of a range of workforce development educational activities undertaken by the Education and Learning team.

3.Lead the assessment, evaluation and re-design of the Preceptorship and Beyond Preceptorship programme to ensure the programme content and clinical competencies are current and reflect the needs of the organisation and clinical practice.

4.To work with the wider education team, Practice Development Nurses and other external stakeholders to provide advocacy and pastoral support.

5.Explore creative, blended solutions to deliver learning and development to teams and individuals.

6.Work collaboratively with HR, Directors of Nursing/Matrons and other senior clinical staff to plan, co-ordinate and review Preceptorship development across the Trust.

7.Act as a role model to facilitate the practitioners’ professional development including development of attitudes, behaviours that demonstrate and uphold professional values and beliefs in line with professional regulatory body requirements.

8.Be a visible and accessible point of contact for clinical staff, coordinating preceptor development across the multi-professional staff group.

9.Promote reflective practice and a culture of lifelong learning, using action learning sets, clinical supervision, e-Learning and other learning methodologies

Professional Development

1.Work with ward/department managers and HR to support and give advice on performance issues, competency assessment and outcomes within the Preceptorship and Beyond Preceptorship programme.

2.Facilitate the development and assessment of clinical competencies, working collaboratively with ward /department managers, clinical educators and clinical teams.

3.Lead the clinical education and assessment of competence as relevant for preceptees.

4.Ensure accurate documentation is maintained and passed onto managers with regards to the completion of clinical competencies, clinical skills training and any other learning activities completed through the Preceptorship and Beyond Preceptorship Programme.

5.To lead, advice, develop and ensure quality of learning opportunities within a multi-professional framework in order that the service users receive a high standard of care.

6.Liaise with the Clinical Placement Team and HEIs in relation to under-graduate curriculum and skills development identifying those skills and competencies which need to be developed through Preceptorship. Managerial/ Change Management

7.Work collaboratively with the Deputy Chief Nurse, NMAHP Head of Education, Professional Development & Workforce and Clinical Managers to lead the planning for rotational preceptee placements.

8.To be responsible for meeting the NMC/HCPC requirements and standards of proficiencies in line with the code of professional conduct for practitioners scope of responsibility.

9.Manage and co-ordinate clinical education resources to optimise learning opportunities.

10.Ensure the effective promotion of clinical supervision in order that the workforce works within parameters of legislation, policies and procedures.

11.Liaise with other Trust Educational Leads across the North Central London re: Preceptorship and Beyond Preceptorship programmes.

12.Lead the monitoring, auditing and evaluation of the preceptorship programme to ensure compliance with Health Education England (HEE) Preceptorship Standards and Performance Management outcomes.

13.Responsible to collate intelligence/data to formulate reports to include preceptorship recruitment, retention, attrition and attainment.

14.Promote and develop innovative approaches to develop preceptors within clinical practice.

15.Lead the provision of preceptor education to support the preceptees across the organisation and individual clinical environments by signposting to relevant resources for preparation.

16.Ensure adequate provision of specific formal education programmes in response to identified needs.

17.Negotiate with professional colleagues to encourage multi-disciplinary training and education.

18.Increase the level of knowledge and skills within the Trust by sharing best practice and supporting others professional abilities
