Job summary

This is an exciting opportunity to work with the Midlands Partnership NHS Foundation Trust as part of the OPD pathway for 12 months, fixed term. The post is based at Kirk Lodge Approved Premise which operates as a Psychologically Informed Planned Environment (PIPE), working with men released from prison who present with complex needs, including personality difficulties.

This role will include:

Working closely with the Clinical Lead Psychologist and Probation Service staff to support the operation and evaluation of the PIPE. Providing training/consultancy to staff to develop their confidence and competence in working with complex individuals. Assisting in the development and delivery of group rehabilitative activities for the individuals at Kirk Lodge.

Main Duties of job:

To assist in the development of service user formulations, drawing upon psychological theory, models, and research. To provide consultancy and support to staff to maintain a psychologically informed environment and promote trauma informed working. To work closely with the Clinical Lead Psychologist, Probation Service staff and external agencies to support the operation and evaluation of the PIPE. To administer, score and interpret psychometric measures with both service users and staff. To identify, develop and deliver training to staff to support their professional development. To identify, develop and deliver group rehabilitative activities to residents in accordance with the PIPE model.

Job responsibilities

Working closely with the multi-agency Health & Justice team, you will:

Work as part of the wider team within the Approved Premise, including Probation, Mental Health and Substance Misuse professionals (although not limited to).

Independently undertake face to face appointments/assessments with service users who have been in contact with the criminal justice system, both on a one-to-one and group basis.

Liaise with other services/stakeholders to support risk management where appropriate, this could include consultancy, joint working and/or making referrals.

Engage in professional development opportunities where appropriate, in addition to supporting the development of others.

Work within limitations and escalate to Practitioners as appropriate.

Person Specification

Qualifications

Essential

First or Upper Second Class Honours Degree in Psychology OR a Lower Second Class Degree with a post-graduate qualification Master's Degree

Experience

Essential

Has significant experience of face to face work with people with mental health problems, learning disabilities and/or offending behaviour Experience of using Psychological assessments, formulations, risk assessments and care planning Experience of working with people who have potential to become aggressive and be able to respond appropriately Experience of MDT working

SKILLS, KNOWLEDGE & ABILITIES

Essential

High level communication skills (written and verbal) including an ability to communicate and work in settings in which the atmosphere may be highly emotive. An understanding of the needs of people with a diagnosis of Personality Disorder/mental illness/learning disability

Desirable

An understanding of the Criminal Justice System
