Leicester, Leicester, United Kingdom Turning Point Full time

Job Overview

Part Time - 30 Hours / Flexible Part Time Options Available

At Turning Point, we are esteemed leaders in assisting individuals in overcoming addiction and reclaiming their lives. By delivering timely support and ensuring that individuals can access comprehensive assistance through a single point of contact, we have evolved into one of the largest providers of substance misuse services across England and Wales. We are currently seeking a skilled Chartered Clinical, Counselling, or Forensic Psychologist to oversee the effective management, development, and execution of all psycho-social interventions within our newly established Mental Health Treatment Requirement (MHTR) team, integrated within our substance misuse services.

This newly formed Primary Mental Health Treatment Requirement service presents an opportunity for individuals within the criminal justice system to receive psycho-social interventions as an alternative to incarceration. It is part of a national network of MHTRs that are psychology-led. Our MHTR services at Turning Point prioritize a tailored approach for each client, utilizing a variety of evidence-based interventions to design treatment plans. Consequently, we emphasize regular supervision of the team to ensure the delivery of high-quality, customized interventions and the application of standardized outcome measures.

Key Responsibilities

You will provide clinical guidance, training, and leadership to a team of Senior Assistant and Assistant Psychologists who facilitate psycho-social interventions for individuals under a Mental Health Treatment Requirement. Your expertise will help enhance a range of innovative strategies developed within other Turning Point MHTR services, collaborating closely with their Clinical Lead under the supervision of a Consultant Clinical Psychologist. Additionally, you will be responsible for the systematic governance of the Leicestershire MHTR service alongside operational colleagues, offering practical advice on evidence-based psychological interventions to colleagues and local agencies.

Inspiring, developing, and coordinating your team will be a crucial aspect of your role. Assisting Senior Assistants, Assistant Psychologists, and Peer Support Workers in developing psychological formulation skills and a trauma-informed approach will be central to your responsibilities. You will also maintain a small caseload of service users with complex needs, providing specialized psychological assessments and therapies.

Beyond operational responsibilities, you will significantly influence the strategic direction and development of the service as a whole. This includes establishing strong professional connections with other statutory and voluntary service providers and leveraging your expertise to create meaningful support networks for our clients. You will also explore continuous improvement opportunities for our services, integrating broader issues such as housing, employment, and finances into the overall treatment process. You will have the opportunity to collaborate with our national team of Clinical, Counselling, and Forensic Psychologists to develop psychological and psycho-social approaches utilized across services and to further your career in a therapeutic specialization aligned with service needs.

Qualifications

Essential

  • Current registration with the Health and Social Professions Council (HCPC) as a Clinical, Counselling, or Forensic Psychologist, along with a doctorate in your professional specialty and demonstrated ability to deliver psychological services.
  • Experience in leading and supervising clinical staff, ideally with a background in working with substance misuse service users.
  • While formal training in supervision is desirable, it is not essential.
  • Strong communication skills, adaptability, and a commitment to the Recovery Agenda will contribute to your role as a vital member of our clinical leadership team.
