Leicester, Leicester, United Kingdom Leicestershire Partnership NHS Trust Full time

Job Overview

Exciting opportunity for a Clinical Psychologist or equivalent role (band 7/8a) within a progressive Medical Psychology Department.

We are seeking a dedicated and proactive Clinical/Counselling Psychologist to become part of our established Department of Medical Psychology, offering up to seven sessions a week (three and a half days).

This position is primarily based at a key hospital location, with some responsibilities at additional facilities and occasional travel to other healthcare settings in the region. The Clinical Psychologist will play a vital role within the haemoglobinopathy service, collaborating with a team of clinical psychologists, assistants, and robust administrative support. Our department maintains strong connections with a prominent Clinical Psychology Doctorate program, providing numerous placement opportunities and avenues for teaching.

Our city is vibrant and diverse, boasting excellent cultural and recreational amenities, along with convenient transport links to major urban centers and the beautiful surrounding countryside.

This established service has recently received additional funding to enhance psychological support, and there is also a session dedicated to working with the General Medical Team, allowing for broader engagement and more general practice. (For those interested in additional hours, there are often opportunities to provide bank sessions within the department).

Key Responsibilities

The haemoglobinopathy service is eager to expand its psychological offerings, recognizing the significant value of psychological input and the desire to further develop the service.

As a Clinical Psychologist, you will have the chance to work under the guidance of a senior band 8b psychologist, contributing to the evolution of psychology within the multidisciplinary team (MDT), while being integrated within a dedicated psychology department.

Your role will encompass specialized assessment and intervention for patients affected by sickle cell disease, thalassaemia, and rare anaemias, along with consultation with MDT colleagues and participation in annual review clinics. There may also be opportunities for inpatient work, involvement in ward rounds, and staff training.

The department offers numerous opportunities for collaborative work, training, and supervision, as we are affiliated with one of the largest acute trusts in the country. Our environment is friendly, supportive, and adaptable, with a strong emphasis on supervision and professional growth. Regular meetings for case presentations, clinical governance, and business discussions are held, along with monthly peer group sessions and dedicated time for reflection and service enhancement.

We are open to requests for alternative hours or varied working patterns in line with our flexible working policy. All substantive roles, excluding medical staff, are subject to a 6-month probationary period.

All positions require eligibility to work in the UK. Any costs associated with required DBS disclosures will be the responsibility of the individual and will be deducted from salary upon commencement.
