Senior Clinical Psychologist for Older Adults

Leicester, Leicester, United Kingdom Leicestershire Partnership NHS Trust Full time

Position Overview

Are you passionate about enhancing the mental health of elderly individuals?

Do you seek a multifaceted role that encompasses both therapeutic practices and neuropsychological assessments?

We are excited to announce openings within our established Mental Health Services for Older People (MHSOP) Psychology team. This is a remarkable opportunity to contribute to the evolution of our psychological services as part of a comprehensive mental health transformation initiative. We are currently offering two part-time positions, and we are open to discussing flexible arrangements. We also welcome applications from band 7 psychologists who are interested in a developmental pathway towards an 8a role.

Your role will involve supporting the community pathway, with potential opportunities to engage in various service areas. You will be part of a dynamic Psychology department that includes Trainees, Assistant Psychologists, Clinical Associate Psychologists, and experienced Clinical Psychologists. Our team is committed to addressing the psychological needs of older adults, engaging in regular clinical discussions, peer support, and collaborative exploration of service-related issues.

The department promotes continuous professional development through departmental discussions and encourages pursuit of relevant training opportunities. Our Psychology Team supports all facets of the MHSOP service, which encompasses Inpatient Services, Care Home In-Reach Teams, Memory Services, Young Onset Dementia Services, and Community Mental Health Teams. We provide direct assessment, formulation, and intervention for patients and their families, while also offering support to staff through case discussions and consultations.

We offer excellent training resources, both online and in-person, and facilitate applications for external training when necessary. Additionally, our Trust boasts a robust Research and Development Team, providing opportunities for involvement in relevant projects.

Regular supervision will be provided by a senior clinical psychology colleague, and you will have access to various well-being initiatives within the Trust.

We maintain strong partnerships with the University of Leicester Clinical Psychology Department, offering teaching sessions, trainee placements, and contributions to curriculum development. Our service is integrated within a network of Clinical Psychologists across the Leicestershire Partnership NHS Trust, encompassing Adult Mental Health, Neuropsychology, and Health Psychology, which serves as a valuable resource for information and support.

Main Responsibilities

Your primary responsibilities will include providing specialized clinical psychology services within the MHSOP framework. You will operate within a Community Mental Health Team (CMHT) setting and conduct neuropsychological assessments as part of the memory service pathway. The role requires autonomy in professional practice, adhering to established guidelines while delivering direct clinical services and offering psychological care consultations to non-psychologist colleagues.

All professional duties will align with the strategic objectives of MHSOP and comply with the professional standards set forth by the British Psychological Society and the Health Care Professional Council.
