Job Purpose

The technical and engineering department of the umbilical manufacturing facility in Newcastle plays a crucial role in the operational efficiency of the plant. Tasked with process design and enhancements, control engineering, and reel management, this department serves as a pivotal support unit for both the Production and Applications teams. It is responsible for disseminating all essential technical documentation, schematics, and operational procedures to ensure the seamless and effective production of umbilical systems.

The primary function of this job is to provide clear instructions, set up information for machines and processes, and devise the necessary tooling designs. This enables the production teams to manufacture umbilical products proficiently. Additionally, individuals in this role are charged with the implementation of continuous improvement processes, ensuring that the facility remains at the forefront of operational excellence and innovation in manufacturing practices.

Job Description

Creation and verification of project specific manufacturing specifications, instructions, set up information and tooling design to ensure production teams are prepared and ready for all ranges of umbilical manufacturing steps. Proposal phase umbilical cross section process risk review, documenting and feedback to proposal team. Understand deadlines and report progress on readiness for manufacturing to process leads. Shall be assigned to a minimum of one process and develop into a specialist, responsible for: documenting, recording and maintaining existing machine capabilities. documenting and maintaining relevant calculation packages, standard operating procedures, rules and templates. using lean manufacturing techniques to identify machine improvements and lead or support improvement and commissioning projects. recording and interrogating machine process data and feed back into standard processes. recording and feeding-back design related improvements to the umbilical design functions in PMA, to support design for manufacture across the life cycle of the project. working with the R&D team, supporting the development and implementation of tools/calculation packages into software. Support PMA and production departments throughout the product life cycle, including process and product non-conformance and impact of design change.

You are meant for this job if:

Bachelor's degree or equivalent experience in an Engineering discipline - preferably Mechanical Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering or Subsea Engineering. Experience with engineering tool such as MathCAD or equivalent. Experience in subsea engineering and the wider industry is beneficial but not essential. Proficient in microsoft office tool such as word, excel and powerpoint. Experience in design tool is not required but beneficial, such as AutoCAD, Inventor.
