Online & Digital Sales Manager

London, United Kingdom The Random House Group Limited Full time

The Online Sales team is a core part of the Penguin Random House Group Sales department. Working with all eight of our publishing houses and across a diverse range of publishing, we maximise discovery and sales of our titles through all online retail channels, across all formats, both at home and internationally. We are looking for an Online & Digital Sales Manager to join us on a permanent basis to help us to build on our success and grow our revenues in this area.

Under the guidance of our Head of Online & Digital Sales, you will lead a team of Online Key Account Managers, working across UK and International. Together, you will ensure our books have the strongest presence and performance on all online retail platforms, including Amazon, Apple Books and through ebook marketing platforms such as Bookbub.

This role will suit someone who is commercially minded, with a strong understanding of the online retail landscape and who is passionate about connecting books and consumers through a range of different strategies.

If you are an innovative thinker with a passion for selling online and an interest in books, we would love to hear from you.

In this role, you will:

Lead our online pricing and promotional strategy across our publishing in the UK and international markets. Apply your commercial rigour and strong understanding of the online retail landscape to maximise sales and revenue for our books throughout the publishing lifecycle, from pre-order, through launch and beyond. Lead and manage a team of talented Online Key Account Managers who work closely with our publishing teams to identify opportunities to maximise our sales performance online and to plan out online sales strategies for key authors and titles. Understand the online retail landscape and analyse retail data and market trends to track performance, identify opportunities for growth and make data-driven decisions to maximise revenue. Share insights and recommendations with stakeholders at different levels across the business, through regular presenting and reporting. Work closely with colleagues from other departments including Data Science, Retail Advertising and Sales Operations.

What you’ll need to succeed in this role:

We are looking for someone with experience in applying commercial strategies online to deliver sales growth in any industry. While proven commercial experience within a publishing environment would be advantageous, publishing experience is not a must for this role. However, you will need to:

Have a keen interest in book publishing and connecting readers with books online. Have strong experience in maximising sales in online channels through pricing, promotion and other strategies. Demonstrate excellent commercial skills with the ability to assess an opportunity and make strategic decisions to meet sales and revenue goals. Be market-aware, with an interest in and deep understanding of the online retail landscape. Have experience in leading a successful team. Be an excellent communicator, with confidence in sharing information and insights effectively with a wide range of different colleagues at all levels. Have strong analytical skills, and proficiency in using sales and data analysis tools to track performance and make data-driven decisions.

About Penguin:

We’re the UK’s largest publisher; made up of some 2,000 people and publishing over 1,500 books each year. Our doors are open to all kinds of talent. In a constantly evolving industry, we work hard to stretch the definition of the word publisher. Here, you’ll work with a breadth of talent who all play their part to make each of our books a success. Together, we make books for everyone because a book can change anyone.

How to apply: Please apply with your CV & Cover Letter by 23:59 on Sunday 11th August

Salary: Circa £60,000 depending on how your skills and experience align to the role.
