The College is seeking to appoint a Leisure Duty Manager Apprentice

Reporting to: Head of Sports and Science Facilities

Main Purpose of the role: A Leisure Duty Manager will manage the effective day to day ‘front line’ operation of a leisure facility. They will provide visible leadership to a diverse range of staff such as lifeguards, receptionists, sports coaches and fitness teams whilst also promoting customer well-being, and, through the services on offer encourage customers to adopt and maintain an active healthy lifestyle.

Apprenticeship Overview:

It is the responsibility of the Leisure Duty Manager to ensure the facility is prepared for use in accordance with the planned activity programme and that all areas are maintained to the highest possible standards of safety, cleanliness, security and operational effectiveness. Their responsibility is to manage staff performance and on-going development to ensure staff are motivated, efficient and operate at a high standard.

The Leisure Duty Manager will promote customer well-being, and, through the services on offer encourage customers to adopt and maintain an active healthy lifestyle. The Leisure Duty Manager will drive improvements to the customer experience and ensure members of staff are fully aware of how to support diverse customers such as ethnic groups, disabled participants, adults, and young children, understanding how this will contribute to overall customer loyalty and retention in support of the business goals and brand.

The role will also assist in implementing management systems, maintaining operational standards and records in accordance with regulations and industry guidance whilst ensuring compliance with all organisational policies and procedures.

The apprenticeship programme through Creative Sport and Leisure covers a duration of 18 months and provides an opportunity to develop skills across a whole range of activities the centre provides. Full training will be given and on successful completion of this apprenticeship the Leisure Duty Manager will be eligible to become a Member of the Chartered Institute for the Management of Sport and Physical Activity (CIMSPA).

As part of the apprenticeship, the apprentice will need to achieve the following qualifications:

• First Aid at Work

• Level 2 Functional Skills (English & Maths), if required.

Person Specification:

  • Interest and/or background in swimming or sports.
  • Highly organised.
  • Good time management.
  • Good communication skills, both written and verbal.
  • Motivated to learn and achieve new qualifications.
  • Ability to consider how equalities, diversity and inclusion matters should be considered in a leisure and sports environment.

The candidate will need to complete their National Pool Lifeguard Qualification as part of this role. The following should be achieved as part of the swimming test if required:

  • Jump/dive into deep water.
  • Swim 50 metres in less than 60 seconds.
  • Swim 100 metres continuously on front and back in deep water.
  • Tread water for 30 seconds.
  • Surface dive to the floor of the pool.
  • Climb out unaided without ladder/steps.

Hours of Work:

You will be required to work 30 hours per week as directed by the Head of Sport and Science Facilities. This will include early mornings, evenings and weekends.

Remuneration:

The salary for this role will be £10.00 per hour for the first 12 months, then National Minimum Wage/National Living Wage dependant on age thereafter.

Holidays:

23 days, plus bank holidays.
