Purpose of the Role
Join the Vehicle Motion – Propulsion Systems team as the Technical Manager Propulsion Systems - where you'll be responsible for all engine design & development activities. This extends from future program development to investigating current field / series & aftersales issues. The role holds a strong focus on program planning, collection and analysis of data, management of hardware, and issue resolution. The role is also responsible for managing and delivering all engine test activities for R&D Vehicle Motion. Reporting into the Functional Manager – Engine Development & Design your main responsibilities include;

  • Providing technical knowledge and guidance to support business objectives in the area of engine design & development to support the functions’ strategic objectives
  • Delivery of projects to include the management and planning
  • Ensuring cross functional delivery of all engine hardware & development topics in pre-series, series and field quality/aftersales environments
  • Responsibility for the validation & verification requirements and management of testing and sign-off for hardware changes
  • Management and delivery of all engine testbed activities for R&D vehicle motion, including but not limited to: Maintenance and generation of test standards, test planning (hardware & software procurement for engines and dyno kits, management of offsite storage and suppliers). Engine setup generation and analysis of testbed data engine issue resolution (remotely and on site at suppliers)
  • Responsible for all engine hardware issue resolution activities, following the formal six-sigma process

About the Team
The Vehicle Motion - Propulsion Systems team are responsible for the design, development, validation and signoff of all engine variants and exhaust systems within the extraordinary Bentley product range. The team is well motived and works within an ever changing environment as Bentley Motors is transforming, combining a world of luxury and progressive technology to embrace an electrified future.

About you – Skills and Experience

The successful applicant will ideally be a Technical Manager or Senior Engineer in an Engine design or development role with proven ability to communicate effectively & cross functionally amongst a range of peers and suppliers. You will ideally have experience of INCA/MDA/Indicom/Matlab alongside knowledge of automotive cycle planning and development. End to end project management and German language skills would be advantageous. You will demonstrate:

  • Strong communication skills & able to present at all levels
  • Ability to coach and influence colleagues in their field of expertise
  • Ability to work independently and use own initiative to drive topics forward with stakeholders and collaborators
  • Experience of issue resolution (ideally six-sigma qualified)
  • Development process knowledge (definition of requirements, test planning, test setup, data acquisition and analysis)
  • Engine Performance and Economy (P&E) and Mechanical Development experience
  • Engine Test Bed operation (setup and running of engines) experience preferable
  • A Full UK driving licence as you will need to travel to test sites
  • An Engineering Degree or equivalent relevant experience
