Purpose of the Role
Join the Acoustics team as the Acoustics Engineer where you'll collaborate with the Functional Manager – Acoustics to deliver our product ambitions and to shape our Beyond100 strategy.

The Acoustics Engineer will support the delivery of current and future model lines, acoustic test & development and the application of acoustic experience in a broader range of acoustic attributes. Working closely with the specific attribute Technical Manager, the Acoustics Engineer will have responsibility for the technical development and delivery of the whole vehicle attribute target performance, on time and within budget, in collaboration with internal and external business partners to support the delivery of current model lines and the development of new experiences for future model lines.

  • Competitor benchmarking and setting/delivery of the subjective and objective attribute target
  • Definition of component & system acoustic targets
  • Performing relevant objective and subjective acoustic assessments of whole car & systems against sign off status or target at key gateways
  • Application of Psychoacoustics metrics and correlation of subjective/objective results to deliver required sound quality
  • Ability to conduct complex concerns, root cause investigation, countermeasure development and design recommendations
  • Supporting Cabin Refinement development activities (e.g. Hot & Cold Field Trials and Validation tests, drive assessments) for measurement of vehicle road load data for whole vehicle and component shaker
  • Ability to manage outsource activities with key service providers and suppliers
  • Ability to conduct other Acoustic attribute testing based on test guidelines, data processing guidelines and attribute sign off/target information
  • Develop new processes and methodologies to enhance Whole Vehicle – Acoustics capability and competence
  • Delivery of the attribute target level performance and levelling with Production and Quality

The Acoustics Team are responsible for the delivery of all NVH attributes (Aero-acoustics, Road Noise, Ride Comfort, Powertrain, Sound Quality, Squeak & Rattle, Powered Ancillaries) across the entire Bentley portfolio. The Refinement and Sound Quality of Bentley products has always been our key class-leading attributes, highly sought-after and valued by our customers. As Bentley now embarks upon its Beyond100 strategy, within a rapidly developing technology landscape and market place, we must ensure that we maintain our competitive advantage, which is becoming even more challenging than ever before as we transition from traditional internal combustion engine to electric motor propulsion, within a disruptive market place.

About you – Skills and Experience

  • Experience in Acoustic Acquisition and analysis techniques and ability to apply in in one or more of the key attribute areas of Aero-acoustics, Road Noise, Powered Ancillaries, Ride Comfort, Powertrain and Sound Quality
  • Acoustic simulation experience
  • Subjective evaluation skills
  • Jury evaluation studies
  • Product Development experience from Concept to Engineering Sign Off
  • Ability to plan, organise, prioritise and manage multiple tasks and deliver within project constraints
  • A degree in Acoustics or equivalent experience
