Purpose of the Role
Join the Field Quality team within Bentley Quality as the Technical Manager - Field Problem Steering. In this role, you will provide technical, process and strategic leadership for Field Quality problem solving / issue resolution activities, ensuring robust root-cause analysis and sustainable solutions to customer concerns. You will support and ensure achievement of business targets, delivering on-time and within budget. On top of this, you will play a pivotal role in reducing warranty spend and driving real quality improvements to the customer, helping to achieve our Beyond100 Quality deliverables. You will also ensure future projects are improved by driving robust lessons learned across the business.

Reporting into the Field Quality Manager, your main responsibilities include;

  • Leading Bentley FAP (Fault Elimination Process): leading the prioritisation and steering of Field Quality problems from identification and root cause definition through to containment and resolution, across all vehicle systems
  • Responsibility for the co-ordination of the Field Quality Engineer resource
  • Being accountable for delivering solutions to a specified timeframe, quality and cost with the ability to demonstrate deliverables status at any time with Key Performance Indicators
  • Running strong cross-functional networks to maximise the effectiveness of different input sensors, and development of solutions
  • Responsibility for ownership of the problem solving processes
  • Responsibility for developing and maintaining specialist technical and business knowledge and capability, to ensure appropriate technical direction is provided and propose process and method improvements to further improve operational efficiency and effectiveness
  • Being accountable for developing and influencing the strategic technical direction within Field Quality
  • Demonstrating a broad awareness of process and operational requirements within the area
  • Participation and effective representation of Field Quality in appropriate meetings and forums

About the Team

Field Quality is responsible for minimising warranty spend and maximising customer satisfaction through the elimination of Field Quality issues.

Within Bentley, the Field Quality team is separated into two halves; Data Analytics (using Field Data to identify customer quality concerns) and Problem Steering (prioritising and resolving the Field Quality concerns to minimise the customer impact).

As the Technical Manager for Field Problem Steering, you will provide technical leadership to the Field Quality Engineers, using problem solving processes to minimise the customer impact of Field Quality topics. It’s a fast paced, technically exciting and cross-functional role in a strong, experienced team where you will be able to make a real difference.

About you – Skills and Experience

  • Expert in Problem Solving and all associated systems, processes and tools linked to it (six sigma advantageous)
  • Demonstrable experience of successfully leading complex issue resolution activities
  • Delivery of results to Cost, Quality and Time targets
  • Appropriate technical experience working in the Automotive Industry or related industries
  • Strong influencing skills and communication, with a commitment to building positive relationships with other functions, and Group, as an outward facing expert
  • Ability to share technical knowledge effectively with others, as well as being able to coach and guide team members
  • Demonstrable experience of process ownership / process improvement activities
  • Good business awareness and ability to make and influence strategic and customer relevant decisions within business context, based on data and facts
  • Demonstrable technical knowledge of the whole vehicle, including development processes
  • Excellent skills in the effective presentation of technical problems to all levels up to Director and including Board
