Prison Operations Support Specialist

We are seeking a highly motivated and organized individual to join our team as an Operational Support Grade. This role plays a critical part in maintaining the smooth operation of our prison facilities, ensuring the safety and security of both staff and prisoners.
About the RoleThe Operational Support Grade is responsible for performing a variety of tasks that support the daily functioning of the prison, including gate duties, control room operations, visits, correspondence, night duties, reception, prisoner supervision, food delivery, and driving duties. The successful candidate will have excellent communication and teamwork skills, with the ability to work well under pressure and maintain confidentiality when required.

Key Responsibilities- Perform gate duties, ensuring the secure entry and exit of staff, visitors, vehicles, and conducting searches as necessary;
- Operate the prison radio system and monitor CCTV cameras to ensure all suspicious activities are reported;
- Welcome visitors and escort them as needed, maintaining a professional demeanor at all times;
- Monitor and log mail coming into the prison, reporting any contraband items and preserving evidence where necessary;
- Ensure cell doors are locked and all prisoners are safely accounted for during night duties;
- Process prisoners' property and parcels, as well as photographing prisoners for identification purposes;
- Sometimes supervise prisoners, exchange clothing and property, and assist prison officers with escorting prisoners around the prison;
- Deliver and collect food trollies, or use an electric tug vehicle, as needed;
- Transport prisoners and their escorts to their destination, collect mail from the local sorting office, and lift heavy sacks if necessary;
- Monitor the prison's Personal Identification Number (PIN) phone system, maintain logs of PIN phone requests from prisoners, and complete relevant records.
To be successful in this role, you will need:
- Excellent communication and teamwork skills;
- A high level of physical fitness, as the role requires standing for long periods, lifting, and carrying equipment;
- The ability to work well under pressure, maintaining a calm and professional demeanor in stressful situations;
- Confidentiality and discretion when handling sensitive information;
- Basic computer literacy and the ability to learn new software and systems quickly;
- A valid driving license and the willingness to drive company vehicles, if necessary.
